the trekdirect bag

Post by K on the run »

Has anyone seen or bought the "Indy bag" from trekdirect and is it ok?
I don't like the idea of stripping a real WWII bag (but i do respect those who do (: ) so I'm considering buying the new bag from trekdirect.
But if it's to "un-screen'ish" I'll just end up buying the real deal anyway.
I'm trying to put together the whole outfit and has to save a buck when ever i can that's why i don't just buy
a real bag or the WPG bag.

Wow K - that's quite a find!

Here's the pic from their website which I've made bigger:

I wonder how it looks inside?

The d-rings are incorrect, but maybe they could be fixed. The price is certainly right @ fifteen quid. :)

Hmm. Nice Mk VI replica. Does it have the "back pocket flap" too?

IIRC, there was a discussion re: this bag a while ago... :-k

EDIT: yes - there was.

Thanks Scandinavia Jones, that link pretty much answers all my questions.
Now there's no more excuses, I'll have to cough up the cash.
How vain of me to think that I actually found something on the net
that wasn't all ready discovered by one of the fine Archaeologist's in this great fan forum.

And thanks ob1al for "the bigger picture", it looks like the real deal to me.

buying one today! Thats a great find. I'll post a review to this thread when it comes, complete with a lot of photos. I'm not a stickler when it comes to d-rings and o-rings (respect to those that are and find the stuff).

Vannevar;
The issue is not so much whether they are O-rings or D-rings, it is that they shouldn't be there on the front of a Mk VII. On the Mk VI though, it is totally accurate.

Let us know when you get it. :D

The string is a throw back to the old gasmask bags, as you hung the bag over your neck with the bag in FRONT of you, and the string was tied around your waist to keep it from twisting around. The ONLY thing I see that I don't like is the D rings that hold the strap to the bag. I've had bags with D rings, and there's just no way of keep them from twisting around. If this was my bag, I'd replace with round rings.

Otherwise, that's one FINE looking bag!!! High regards! Michaelson

That's one of the best non-reproduction bags I have seen.

The string is correct. Here is a photo of a statue wearing a bag with the string tied around him.

I think that is a great looking bag. I even like the zipper and the logo doesn't bother me too much either. Great bag.

Clever bag indeed... And I even like the zipper. :D
EDIT: You said it, Hem. 8)

Coming to think of it, it is pretty logical with only one vent placed in that manner. That's where the filter would rest...

Is it all cotton?

Yea, Its a pretty good looking bag. I'm not sure how close it is o Indy psces but if you put a leather strap on it it would be close enough for me. 8)

I see it coming now... People ordering these bags and putting a black stripe over the logo to make it look more like a genuine Mk VII.

Shoot, I'd almost prefer it over the standard MKVII myself, as the zippered compartment would keep ANYTHING from falling out. Regards! Michaelson

Since it seems to to be a remodel similar to the MKVI, does it have to the 2 pockets on the back?

Hey!

Not bad!

Personally, if it were my bag, step one would be to grab a stitch puller and get rid of that logo!

Secondly, I would take off the string, put on some "O" rings. I like it though, it looks sturdy and looks pretty accurate.

Nice find!

My bag came yesterday and I'm very pleased with the look and feel of the bag.
I cut of the logo on the front, it proved to more work than anticipated. Took me about 3 hours. Ill post pics when I get my new www domain running.

Michaelson,

Actually, look a bit closer, those look like narrow oval slider type fasteners. They wouldn't turn. I think those are fine, it's just that dang logo! :?

The proper way to get rid of embroidery is to take an electric shaver to the stitching on the back/inside of it, then pull the threads out of the front with your fingers. Just an FYI. I used to be an embroidery tech.

So what color is it actually? In the non-flash pictures it looks tan and when you used the flash it looks somewhat green but not nearly as green as the one on their website.

The color is almost as in the non flash pictures, only a little darker and warmer. I would call it a warm sand color.

I think it is a pretty accurate Mk-VI replica -with out being a bag expert- but even the strap is identical to the pics on http://www.gasmasklexikon.com/Bilder/Mk ... K-0014.jpg
