Today I wore my wested Indy pants to work, together with an Iron Maiden tee-shirt (I know, I know) and a colleague walked past and said "Hmm, they're smart trousers".

After I had thanked her I thought about something.

Indy pants are by nature, supposed to be 'dress pants'. So the question is do any of you fine gentlemen here (or indeed any of the ladies here) wear the Indy pants in a dressy fashion? And also, can they be worn as such?

Absolutely. Just this weekend I wore my LL Bean's with shirt and tie and sport jacket. It was the only thing about me that looked smart ...

I have a nice pair of Dockers that looks good with a shirt and tie. I'd say it's a smart look.

How about shoes?

I would imagine that you could turn the whole Indy look around with a few different items of clothing.

I wear my L.L. Bean Dress Chinos with a blue blazer, white shirt and tie about twice a week here at the bank, and everyone here: coworkers and superiors are just fine with it. So, they are dressy enough for the stuffy old bank ("Merry Christmas, you Ol'Savings and Loan..." sorry about that). I would say yes, they are very "smart," that is, if "smart" translates as dressy.

I've worn my Westeds to work with a shirt and tie. Its a good look. Most people wont even pick up on the Indy link since they dont think Indy wore dress trousers.

The Indy pants - the cavalry twills - were often worn by British gentlemen, usually with a military background. They were also seen on "Sloane Rangers" - older, mostly retired colonels living around Sloane Square in London - generally speaking, people with a very conservative taste in clothing. The cav twills are an endangered species. The fabric is considered old-fashioned and quite uncomfortable - remember, a true stiff-upper-lip Briton would never wear something as unmanly as lined trousers! Because of its going-out-of-fashion, the fabric is becoming increasingly rare. Peter mentioned that he was beginning to experience something of a cav twills drought... get those Indypants while you can, folks...

I've worn mine to job interviews, church and just hanging around the homestead. They are all purpose pants unless they're torn in the left knee!

I wear my Wested pants with my Jack Purcells. Sort of a retro thing. I guess most folks here would hate that.

I find them a heap more comfortable than jeans though. I've never found them to be uncomfortable at all.

Sure Canyon, I do it all the time. My Indy pants, Bule shirt and tie, Wested, and brown wingtips. I think it makes me look quite sharp.

I wear Indy style pants to work all the time, and have had people ask why I wear such "dressy" pants - I guess it would be dressy for factory work, but for comfort and mobility they can't be beat. I do, however, save the nicer LLBean's for church and other social, non-work uses...

Indy pants are definitely dressy by today's standards. I think the pleats, the cut, and the material all announce that these are dressy pants. If you wear them, at some point you'll be asked to justify your choice. Why are you so dressed up? Why are you wearing such nice pants for the outdoors? Do you have a date or something? Don't you know you can wear shorts here? Are you a defendant? Ect...

Oh, don't be so hard on yourself, Jess, even if it is true.

If I had a pair of these, I'd wear them about everywhere. Heck, the LL Bean "Indy" chinos I have, I wore to a job interview this past week. If I get the job, it's probably because of the pants.

Well, all this trouser talk, makes me want my pair of Westeds, even more. All probably wear them all the time, Mostly.

But you're right, you should wash your pants when they have been solid for two weeks.

The pants aren't an uncommon style or cut, to my mind. Nor is the colour unique. As such, besides the actual material they're made of, which is indeed becoming rarer, they're pretty much generic dress pants. I don't see why anyone would take any kind of overt liking (or exception) to them in situations. To the majority of society, it's like, "They're pants... so what?"

Well, who cares what people think.? Don't be a clone like them, be proud
of what you wear. because nothing is better clothing, then Indy Gear.

But, my point is, to all those 'clones' around you, you're looking no different to them, anyway.

True with the Trousers, but I was talking about the Gear as a hole.
