Ok here it goes, I am a bit of a newbie on this and I´s like to have a comparisson more or less accurate and a list of the best whipmakers, because by this time I only know Dukewhips, David Morgan , and heard of Joe Strain , but I would like to know more about these whips, I know the original is the David Morgan, but is it a great whip?? for that price hope it is... Well this is just out of curiosity I dont plan getting a good whip, at least for now...

I think his whips have always been expensive but with the Indiana Jones connection eh can charge even more.

Thats said my understanding is that they are great whips, though apparantly the older ones are better than the newer ones he makes. also there is some dispute as to whether he actually makes his new ones or not though I know nothing of the details on this at all.

The weight of the David Morgan whip is pretty well balanced. I had bought a couple of whips from a place called Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota that "look" quite similar to the Indy whip. It cost me around $200.00, but the feel is much different from the DM whip. I'm not really into all the variances that make up a good whip but I can say that buying a whip is almost like trying on shoes: you need to find one that feels good to you. What might feel good to me i.e weight, balance, etc. may not feel good to you. Very subjective!

For the price of a Morgan, I personally wouldn't go that way. I understand they're some of the best but we have quite a few very skilled whip makers right here that make virtually the same and for about half the cost. And if you really want screen accuracy David Morgan has changed his design with time to create more efficient whips. So like the Herbert Johnson it's "Indy" by brand name only, really. I'd rather work with one of our guys here on the board to get the exact whip I see (or think I see ) on the screen.

Since it wasn't clear how much you want to spend, I'll give you what I think is the best bottom-end whip. If you want strictly screen-accurate and are prepared for a price range of several hundred $ and upward, please ignore this.

Note that I only consider this whip 'bottom-end' price-wise, since I love the look and quality:

Adam Winrich's IOAB (Indy-On-A Budget) Whip.

He makes them pretty much to any length, includes the correct handle configuration, but uses less plaits (which are wider). So it isn't exact, but considering his pricing, it's an amazing compromise if you are just starting out. It's a beautiful whip and it handles great - I brought mine to the last QM and let the whip experts try it out, and they all said positive things about it - no detractors there.

I haven't seen an update on this lately, but last I looked I thought he was making these for $10/foot. Yeah, no kidding, no typo. $10/foot.

Just search the Bullwhip forum for 'IOAB' or 'Winrich' and you'll come across them. Pics, too.

OMG thx Indiana Jerry, only 80 bucks for a whip, id like to ask more about this whip, like the size appropiate for beginners, durability of the whip, shipping to europe...
