What style/bash did you order it in and how long did it take to arrive?

I'm thinking about getting one myself.

Just recieving both the herbert Johnson and Adventurebilt in the same week I would say go with the pure beaver adventurebilt. Both are very comforable and are nice to the touch. The adventurebilt has a richer color to it ( is very hard to explain maybe some else who has both can do a better job). The herbert Johnson is a nice hat and I like it very much but the edge already goes to adventurebilt because of the beaver felt and steve's block.

I sent an email to fedora but maybe you gusy can answer this too. Can I do the "off center" shaping as done on www.raidershat.com? I really like the look of this and wondered if it's possible with the adventure built (I assume it is seeing as fedora is a fedora and any one can be put off center right?)

The current HJ ios not the original by any stretch of the imagination. Its only a nametag on a completely different hat.

Herbert Johnson is only selling the LC version of the hats. The information given on the Indygear home page under Gear: Fedora: Akubra, about half way down are the dimensions for the Raiders hat from Herbert Johnson. I own three HJ's purchased at the same time in 2003. The brim is smaller on my hats than what is listed as the dimensions for the Raiders hat. Conclusion: It must me the LC model since that is the last hat made for the movies. It is a great hat even with the smaller brim!

For what it is worth, I just received a charcoal gray HJ 'poet'-Indy from Todd! Much darker than I would have imagined...as Todd put's it -- 'light black', but it is cool! I just wanted to have one more HJ (like I need another hat) in the gray-field. It really is a nice hat and Todd did a perfect 'flying V' with the bash! So, for those of you still looking for the 'orginal-Indy hat's' (though not as good quality-wise as in day's past and not Todd's or anyone except HJ's fault), then you can get some great HJ's at a super price and styled just the way you ask for it! Todd, like Steve and other hat makers, I have had and do have the fortune to know, is a great guy, who will do it the way you want it! All Regards! W>

Hey, jpenman, could you get some pics of your new HJ and AB hats together? It'd be great to see a side by side comparison of the two.

Yeah, the straw Indy is cool. I don't believe it has the dimensional cut on it due to it being straw, but to me the hat looks great.

Hiya, this is the hat since that time, I took these today. I haven't treated with spray or anything. I am going to take a photo this afternoon similar to the first pic in my above post (my study is on the other side of the house from where the sun rises) in the mean time, here is a head on shot.

3 inches!!! Is that the front or the back? (I'm assuming it has a dimensional cut.) What size hat is it?

Lining

Post by taikonaut »

I recieved an email from Herbert Johnson company and was told that the original hat supplied for the film uses white lining but now they use black lining because people complained that it gets dirty too easily. Has anyone own a white lined version

Yes, my HJ has a white liner. Todd can get you a white liner and a red crest if you want one.

No i dont own one but I own an AB with white liner and i dont think that it gets dirty easily ( you can look at HJ white liner @ http://www.toddscostumes.com/indy/herbe ... fedora.htm, hope there is no prob with the link  )

The ones in the Indy used white liner and for what ive seen so long the ones with white liner are more expensive than the black ones.

Well thats all the info i can add
