Please help me pick a style.

Hey All,

My measurements are done, the funds are in the bank, and so its time to order my hats.

I am going to order one Beaver, and one Rabbit. (One for special occasions, and one for adventuring) The trouble I am having is, what style to get for what hat.

I like both the Raiders look and the LC look. But I’m not sure what style would suit which hat. So I am wondering what you guys think.

Oh, and just a side question, what is “turned?”

Thanks :D

Jeff

I suppose I'll make this "my" post and keep all my Fedora going ons in this one section.

The following pictures are my "Indy" hat that I have had for almost 15 years. Yep, thats genuine screen accurate leather you see before you! It has seen quite a few trips, and even a dunk in the ocean.

As you can see, it's really due time for a real Indy hat.

I too wrestled with this question before shaping my Fed Dlx. as I'm a big fan of both hats and came to this conclusion. I think the Raiders bash is the ultimate for an adventure hat, but to me dosen't seem to fit a dress hat as well as the Crusade bash, I mean look at the Venice peir, that's classy! Even the Raiders hat at it's best never looked that classy. IMHO!
Just my 2 cents, hope it helps. Everybody else, feel free to back me up, or beat me down. :)

In your position I would be torn between Raiders = Adventure and LC = Dress hat and simply having both hats int he Raiders style as the Raiders style also works very well with a suit in my opinion:

I'm with the Wookie! The Adventure hat should be a SOC, so you won't have to worry about it at all. Bang is around all you want and it will only look better.
The dress hat should be a dock scene LC: one of the classiest hats I have ever seen, ever.
My two cents, for what it is worth... which I guess is two cents! :D

Steve blocked my beaver Adventurebilt as a generic 1930's fedora... Tall Crown - relaxed pinch- medium width brim.

The shape has taken on a life of it's own. Taking it off, putting it on, Taking it off, putting it on... I can't narrow it down to just one scene but it looks fantastic.

So there's my advice... get a genaric block with a center dent and relaxed pinch and the fedora will work itself out. It may not look perfect for one particular scene but after days of just wearing it, the look will settle in.

In my opinioun: Raiders for Adventure, LC Pier for Dress .. I'm planning on getting a LC pier one first .. and later on a Raiders hat :D

I agree with you, Ren. I wanted my hat to be a Raiders hat, but more along the lines of when Indy bought it new. The pinch was relaxed and the rest of the hat nice and clean in appearance. But as I've worn and handled it, the pinch has become naturally tighter from handling, and the rest of the hat has broken in, making it look more adventure-laden as each day passes.

I've been accused of wearing a typical 'Raiders of the Temple Quest' style myself, but lean more toward the LC stying instead of the sharp razer edge of the Raiders crown. By the looks of your old war horse, I'd say you're a Raiders man myself, and it would be more suited to what you're already used to. Regards. Michaelson

Maybe you could have your rabbit look like Cairo bash, as its the one you will use mostly for adventuring, and your beaver one to have it like LC

Just my thoughts

Is that anything like my own "Raiders of The Lost Temple of Casablanca?"

Were does the "Quest" come from?

Michaelson worked "Quest for Fire" in there as he wears the hat with a tattered coyote pelt shawl.

BINK! Are you doffing and donning your hat by the pinch?!! I thought one was to always handle a hat by the brim.

Well at least you didn't try to tie in Davey Crockett's coon skin cap into that one Michaelson

Why, yes, sometimes I do. Not always, but sometimes. Besides, if the AB can hold up to a good adventure, I think it can handle being grabbed by the pinch from time to time.

LC is a dressy hat. The Raiders hat is adventure only. When I got my AB I turned it and gave it a generic Raiders bash, along the lines of the Raven Bar or Well of Souls. I like a hat with some curl in the brim. Thats why I turned mine. The 'turn' gives the brim a dymanic look. Its makes the hat unique. A flat brim is just blah. But do what ever you like the best. :D

You have to make the look your own. No debating that.
