1st post, indy jacket question or two

Hello, new here but not to forums...usually not about clothing though, bicycles, guitars...but anyway...

I have looked for an indy type jacket for years and the TOD one, the bit longer one looks pretty darn good to me, maybe with a tad more length.. I am wondering about materials, one that will not look to shiny new and will wear and weather somewhat quickly..these afterall are casual jackets perfect for chinos and jeans....at least that is the way I would wear one.. So I am interested in which leather? Also, as much as I think brown is the right color, black does sometimes get my attention, but I am wondering from those of you who have seen or own one, how the black looks in this style compared to the brown?

Also, it seems like the folks that make these will tailor one to some specs, I am sure they probably charge more for this, so far I have not gotten a reply to an email I sent, and info appreciated.

Thanks

Hello and welcome! If you are speaking of Wested, they do not charge anything additional for a custom tailored jacket; that is simply how they do business: you send them your measurements and they make you a jacket. It's as simple as that. as for Flight Suits, I do not know.

As for leather, I am not an authority. I am sure others will jump in. I do have an authentic lamb and, though often criticized for a perceived lack of durability, I have had mine for over a year with moderate use and there is hardly a scratch on it. This is either good or bad depending on what you are trying to achieve. The authentic lamb is not glossy or shiny when brand new the way that a goat almost looks wet. It truly looks, well, authentic.
I think TOD is the way to go. The longer length looks a bit more contemporary and that is how it sounds you are going to wear it. As for me, I have a Raiders and I like the Retro look and fit.

They are not necessarily casual jackets if you keep one in good shape and dress it up with nice slacks, shirt, and a tie like our own Ren does to great effect or Indy did in Last Crusade.

I am not a fan of black, but I have never seen one. I see black as being more of a motorcycle jacket, but that is just me.

Anyway, good luck on your jacket and enjoy your stay here in this wonderful madness. :D
