Cheapy Indy Gun

Post by namebrand »

I had picked up one of the 357 toy guns like the Kapowwe ones I have seen mentioned here...I know they are not as nice as the 4" waterguns but they are only $2 Canadian at a dollar store near me so I figured why not. The other day I was looking at the Kapowwe site cause I wanted to look into getting the nicer watergun but they are sold out. Anyway to make a long story short, I was in a corner store near my friend place last night and found a ".38 Special" cap gun that would work as a nice cheap Indy gun, or even as a base to make a more accurate cheap Indy gun...plus it fires caps...and it was only $4.99 Canadian (plus taxes of course).

Here are some pics. Let me know what you seasoned gear heads think. I might pick up another one for another project I am working on that requires a similar gun. Oh, and sorry for the crappy pics.

Still in the package.

Without the brown grips on, looks to me like it would look pretty good with some more accurate grips and a little modification.

Namebrand, that gun actually looks pretty good without the grips & safety tip. If you could get a lanyard ring for the butt, it'd be great! :D

Namebrand,

If you could get a few more of these, perhaps you could bring them to the Canada Summit if you attend (??)

I'd compensate you for them, naturally, and we could use them as door prizes at the movie.

Nick,

The Summit is listed under the 'Events' section. I will be personally hosting it in Ottawa on the May 21-22 weekend.

Read about it at

viewtopic.php?t=10369

The more people to come, the better, and we'd love to have you along if you can make it!!

The highlight will be a screening of Raiders in a repitory theatre built in the 30's. PM me or post any questions you may have or if I may be of any help.

That second gun is not a 357, it is a S&W M19. I bought one at shopko years ago and was always planning on cutting the barrel down, last week I accidently stepped on it, crushing it, it was way too light and very cheap, I wasn't so sad.

Uh, a model 19 IS a Smith and Wesson .357 revolver, built on a K frame. They're a nice gun, but because of the lighter K frame kick pretty hard with heavy magnum loads. That, of course, doesn't help in this discussion, but the 19 is a .357. Regards! Michaelson

Yup and the good old k frame won't hold up to the stress of everyday firing of the magnum loads. Thus the beefier L frame revolvers like the .357 Combat Magnum. :D

I was ready to point out that the model 19 is a .357, but ya'll beat me to it. I always thought they kicked pretty hard too, but the model 29 taught me different. This is exactly what I looked like when I shot the model 29 for the first time. And here I am a few minutes later. 8)

Yea, the .44 mag screams power. 8) Dad has carried a .44 mag Colt Anaconda in the woods for years. Its a good insurance policy against any mean varmints, 2 or 4 legged. Although in his old age he has hijacked my TAG holster and carries his S&W 686 in it now. :?
