Is there anything you WON'T wear a fedora with???

Hey all,
Since receiving my AB, I have been more aware of the fact that I have started discarding certain clothes into the recesses of my closet because they won't wear well with the AB.
Mainly, this comes down to shirts as I find the Indy hat look good with both khakis and jeans. I cannot bring myself to wear the Indy hat with polos, collarless buttondowns, and any shirt with a pattern or stripe of any kind. The shirts have to be solid buttondowns in either earthtones, or denim.
Oh, and always with some kind of brown leather shoes/boots.
Have I been tainted by the Indy look towards the fedora? Am I underestimating the fedora's ability to look good with other clothes???
Am I crazy?

as of now, I don't have an Indy fedora, but I wear a fedora with just about anything, and my panama in the summer for clothes the fedoras don't go good with. Like my hawaiian shirts
But yeah, I think you're letting the indy thing take over, like I once did
High Regards, Daryl.

I tried wearing it while wearing a baseball cap but something just wasn't fitting right
Actually to seriously answer your question I would not have too many problems wearing the fedora with most things in casual clothes. T-shirts, shirts, etc - of course there are limits with color co-ordination and style I suppose, but then a lot of the things that would clash would be more modern, fashionable generation clothign which I dont own anyway.

IndyFrench: I understand your question and I understand your 'feelings and concepts', but you know, I think sometimes we 'Gearheads' take things far too seriously -- this must match that -- and that -- must match this, etc.
!!! It ruins the fun of wearing the hat and other things we like. I am finally (thank you God) getting away from, everything has to be a 'Balanced-Indy-Look' and just doing what feels good to me, at the time....ie: the 'Balanced-William-Look, as is influenced by -- 'Indy'! I don't know, and am not certain if that makes sense to you, but for me, it is great. I am now -- me -- not a 'copy' of Indy, just me with some 'cool'
stuff to wear! All Regards! W>

Ok. I just pictured the worst image of Sydney Greenstreet in a speedo. Bleh.

I tend to wear collared shirts/polos most of the time with jeans... if I wear my AB, I'll put the Aldens on. No big deal.
I've started wearing the Indy pants a lot more too, they're more comfy than jeans I find.
Speedos and an Akubra? It could almost be Australian National Dress...

Ok, in an attempt to get the thread actualy On Topic:
I don't wear T-shirt, but just shirts, preferebly a suit (yes, I feel great in a black suit), But I do find myself wearing a black fed on a black trenchcoat ..
Heck, a fed looks great with a Gothic outfit .. (trust me on that)

I've been finding recently that a fedora, especially one with a wide brim, just looks a little too jarringly dressy when I'm wearing casual clothes like jeans and a t-shirt. I've been tending to wear my newsie cap with those types outfits. I've also started dressing a bit dressier, like wearing slacks instead of jeans and button downs instead of t-shirts. I think the fedora goes great when I dress like this. I tried wearing the fedora recently with jeans, a button down, and a brown courduroy blazer, but it just looked to cowboyish, even to me.

My personal style dictates a fedora and sneakers are
the #1 no-no! Sadly, I have probably broken that rule a time or two...
I usually do not wear my fedora with pull over shirts. I think the hat goes better w/button down shirts.
A fedora and jeans could go together, depending on the cut of jean.

I can wear fedoras with sneakers. They're not NB or Adidas, mind you. But if they're something that looks old school, like Chuck Taylor's or those Keds that came back for Aviator, then it fits.

That makes total sense. However, one has to be very aware of how they are pairing the hat and sneakers. My wife looked at me funny when I rushed out of the house in an Akubra, Wested and Puma speed cats....
Guilty as charged!!
Personal interpretation of 'classic' looks can get very ugly. Check out some hip-hop stars. IMHO, they take a classic look to the edge of gaudy, then jump right in! The fedoras and suits look very comical....Just my .02 cents..

On the next episode of "Indy Eye for the Bland guy..."
There are pictures of me from the 1980's (The ones I wasn't able to burn...) that have me wearing every type of male clothing that proves that a fedora CAN go with everything but doesn't prove that it SHOULD go with anything.
If you have a brown fedora, your best friend on the color chart is "Earth Tone's." Any earth tone goes great with a brown fedora, including reds and blues like slate. Any color that’s desaturated and muted will go well with a fedora. Autumn colors are what I'm talking about... fill your wardrobe with that and you can't go wrong.
You can get away with all black if you wear a brown leather belt, a brown leather jacket and shoes... this catches the eye of the ladies, don't know why it just does.
Brown leather shoes and belts go a long way
You can wear a bright red or green shirt if you wear dark pants and your tie has some colors that complement your fedora and the pants.
Circus make-up does NOT go with a fedora... you do that and you'll be heading to court one morning wearing pajama's charged with not keeping your hands to yourself around other people's children.

Exactly, Ren. My principal was with me when I went to Swaine Adeney Brigg, and he was reluctant on whehter a brown hat would work with suits, etc. and the salesmen just said exactly what you did.
I'm pretty anal

(No, REALLY?! Indydawg anal?!)
But, I'll only wear my fedora with a long sleeved button down or open collared shirt (like the safari shirt type or some other open collared shirt like that).
Later!

When I roll out of bed, walk down stairs and head to the coffee machine, I put my fedora on. So a fedora does go with Boxers and Pajamas... I just don't recomend that look for the whole day.

Wearing a white singlet with a fedora is an easy way to do the depression era look.

Me, heck I wear it all the time, it's me. I've been wearing the Fedora ever since seeing ROTLA and if I don't wear everyone looks at me and says hey there's somthing different about you....................you been working out.
So to answer the question at hand I wear it with every thing.

I would wear my Indy fedora with just about anything, as long as it's under 65 degrees. I especially like them when wearing blue jeans and a leather jacket. Once it gets above 65 degrees, however, on comes the Panama hat.
I don't usually wear suits, but if I did, I would need a gray Indy to go with any colored suit besides brown.
