I have just got a new JS and I cant seem to put it down. I have been using it lately but the only place that I can use it is mostly grass but there are patches of dirt. Anyways about the last two feet of the whip is getting what i would call dusty i have brushed it off with a clean soft shoe brush but I was wondering if I need to clean it even better before I put a new coat of pecards on it. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I always clean my whips with a bit of Lexol Saddle Soap and a slightly damp rag. I then wipe off the excess and coat with a bit of Pecards.
It works real nice.
Congrats on your new JS. I hope you have many years together.
All the best,

Gilly,
Give it a good, gentle brushing with your shoe brush or a soft tooth brush to get all of the little pieces of dirt out from in between the strands. Then dampen a soft cloth with some warm, soapy water and wipe the end of the whip down. Wipe it towards the fall, not towards the handle. Then dry it really well with a clean cloth and give it coat of dressing.

Good advice from all of the above, making sure to have a damp cloth and not sopping wet, after of course getting rid of all particles in between the laces. I've used a soft toothbrush to really get the dirt out. Remember that sand particles in the between the laces, act like little diamonds that will just eat into the lace.
Make sure the whip drys a little before applying a thin coat of pecards. Wait 24 hours, and if the whip appears to be dry from the soaping/cleaning, then apply another thin coat of Pecards.....
