Club Obi Wan

My buddy, Lash (who was a COW member once, but may have been culled in the big cleanup), is in the process of making me an 8' nylon bullwhip. He came in to my office last week and we picked a colour for the parachute cord he's braiding it with. I went with a brown that will closely emulate an Indy whip. The handle will be woven around an 8" nail spike I found on the road.

I'm very excited because the snakewhip he made me is just incredible! He's a real craftsman, that Lash!

I may have to wait til spring to see it, because it's so labour intensice and he's a busy, busy man. It'll be worth the wait.

Ooooo.....Nylon...

I prefer nylon whips to my leather ones (albiet the leather ones I have are pretty cheap)- it seems they have a LOT more play and I can use them anywhere in any weather and not have to worry about babying them so much.

I will post pix. I think Lash is taking progress pix as well.

I'm still here (though I'm guessing most everyone else only knows me as 'Dittmer')!

So far I've only prepared the shot-loaded core but hopefully by this weekend I'll get a chance to start on the 8-plait belly.

Haven talked in a while. Whats with all this Lash by the way? is that your nickname or something? If im not mistaken, Mark, did you buy some whips from paul nolan? Ive just ordered a 8 foot roo indy from him, and was wondering what you thought of his stuff.

Lash is a nickname that Sable gave to me.

No, I have never bought (or have even tried out for that matter) any whips from Paul Nolan. It looks like he does great work though so I'll be interested to hear how you like the whip you get from him.

No, I haven't made any whips since then. I guess I've kind of been on a whipmaking hiatus or something.

I only just started on it so I reckon it'll be at least a couple of weeks yet. I still need to order some chocolate brown paracord for the overlay.
