Let's just say I'm excited. I was planning on going to David Morgan's shop this weekend and buying an 8ft whip when I found one for sale on ebay. I was able to buy it for $414 including shipping. Hopefully it will be here this weekend. Really looking forward to it. Supposedly it's only six months old and only been cracked a few times. Looking forward to getting it.

floatinjoe you are off to a great start. Keep that baby off of the concrete and sand and you will get years of enjoyment out if cracking it. David Morgan whips are made to be used, have fun with it. If you need some instruction I have a whip cracking video I would be glad to lend you. IM me with your address and I will send it to you.

I went tot the post office today, hoping beyond hope that it would be here and it is. I'm so excited. I can't wait to try it out. Now all I need to do is find someplace where I can use it.

Woohoo! You have hours and hours of fun ahead of you, congratulations!

Just take it slow and be patient. When I first started cracking, I made the mistake of trying to do too many cracks at once...I was just swinging the whip all over the place (hehe, musta looked funny). Got myself some nice welts doing that, so I learned to slow down and learn the "finesse" aspect of one crack at a time until I got more experience. (and I'm still learning)

Well, I cracked my first whip today. I set up a lesson with The Edge for this morning and he taught me how to use my new purchase. Prior to using the lessons, we stopped in to see David Morgan. I must say he is a great guy. Prior to Kyle getting there, he walked me through a good number of the items he sells at the store including sweaters, hats, jackets and socks. He is definitely enthusiastic about his merchandise; I couldn't believe how much he knew about the socks alone.

I brought in my whip and showed him the purchase. I was happy to hear both him and Kyle say that the whip was in good condition. Not knowing much of anything about whips, it's always good to hear experts tell you that you bought something good.

After leaving the shop, Kyle and I went to a field where he began to show me some basic cracks. It took some time, but by the end of two hours, I was cracking the whip fairly regularly and was doing several different cracks. I was even cracking with both hands. Actually, it turns out that I crack better with my non-dominant hand.

Kyle let me try out some of the whips he has made. Boy, are those short, light whips fun to crack. As we were cracking, Kyle was commenting that my whip seemed longer than eight feet. I tended to agree with him. Since neither of us had a tape measure we laid it out next to one of his six-footers and saw that it was definitely more than two feet longer. Our guess was that it was at least a nine-footer, but probably a ten. I got home and measured it. Lo and behold, it measures out at ten feet. I am really happy about the deal I got now. This put my savings at $250. That’s a pair of Aldens, a Wested or the start of a second whip. (Yes, there will be a second whip in my future.)

Learning to use the whip was great. I am really looking forward to getting better at it and being able to whip regularly. As for whips, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship.

hehehe...yeah, after the first time they will. I didn't feel at all as bad after the second session, but I guess results may vary.

Now...you HAVE to get to a summit and try cracking whips w/ a dozen people at once! That's how I learned (ITG made for an EXCELLENT teacher!), and I can't wait to do it again now that I won't be struggling for the first half hour.

Don't let Mike fool you folks. For a guy who had never cracked a whip before he was a very quick study and took direction easily. He was cracking that bullwhip in the first ten minutes of us being there. When he put down the ten and tried out my six and seven foot whips he was popping them every time. He even did some target cutting. And besides minor brushing he didn't hit himself seriously at all.

Don't sell yourself short, man!
