SOF Credit Card problems?

Hey, has anyone had trouble ordering from Soldier of Fortune? (Source for MKVII bags.)

Even though their site has a pulldown in the credit card type menu for a Discover card, they sent an email saying they don't take Discover. (Hunh?)

Then they asked for another credit card number - by email. (NO WAY!)

I told them cancel the order, send me a confirmation, and I'd submit another via the website, but I'm not sending one by email. They said okay, send a new credit card number by email and they'll cancel my other order. (Again, NO WAY!)

I get the feeling I'm dealing w/ either w/ someone who isn't quite up to speed or a really inelegant phisher...since it would have to be 'an inside job' to know my order number and credit card type, woudn't it?

I'm going around w/ them now...I'll let you know which way it falls out. Just wondering if anyone else had this same problem.

If nothing else, maybe they really do have a mistake in their website, in which case I'll let ya'll know so you don't also end up in the Discover card cul-de-sac.

Any info/advice welcome.

Sounds pretty fishy to me. Maybe you should look for a bag some place else. That, or their sights been hacked, and they don't know it. Or maybe you've been dealing with the hacker the whole time.

As for the rest, you don't give them any money, they don't send you any merch. done deal.

I suggest you do not give it out!

Did you place an order at the time you noticed the Discover Card option drop down? It seems very suspicious that they are asking for your credit card into in a seperate email.

It sounds like someone is intercepting your interaction with SOF and trying to get your card info.

A friend of mine almost got scammed from an Ebay seller.

Thank God for Bink!

Yeah, don't worry, even if it IS them, I'm refusing to give cc info over email. I keep insisting they delete my order, and when I get that confirmation I'll do it again - through their secure website.

Maybe this is just some confusion at SoF - like perhaps they had their purchase/checkout scripts updated, and they forgot to tell whoever did it for them the correct set of CC's they take.

I'll update when (and if) it resolves. For now it will just be hanging.

Thanks - J

P.S. Clinton - I didn't see a paypal option there, but that certainly would have been preferable!

Or maybe they really did update all their payment stuff. I'll go look again.

Update...okay, they came back from the wknd to say that yep, lo and behold, their site had been updated incorrectly, and they'll have to correct it again.

So, for anybody ordering in the short term - DON'T USE A DISCOVER CARD ON SOLDIER OF FORTUNE. They can't process it, your order will just get hung up.

At least they were cool about it, even if the first emails sounded suspiciously like a phisher...guess they were just trying to be so helpful they didn't realize what they were asking. ;)

No worries about them, though, I'll gladly re-order once I get a confirmation of cancellation.

Over & out -

I think I remember the same trouble with that when I ordered from them way back. I sent my card number divided in separate emails though. No sweat... 8)

Did you tell them in what order they should put the numbers, or did you let them figure that out by themselves? :D

This is old, but I owe it to the vendor to post that it was worked out.

SoF cancelled that order as stated, never had a problem w/ that actually being charged or anything. As they said, they don't take Discover, and I didn't see it anymore on their website. As a matter in fact, it didn't let me pick the card type the second time, it only let me enter the number (an MC this time), and it took it.

Got a 5 pound bag in the mail in about 2 weeks...not bad. Faded black stripe, not grungy, well faded/distressed, w/o being holey or anything. Can't see the manufacturers mark anymore, but it's a dead-on ringer for the MKVII pics Swindiana posted in his definitive comparison thread.

Now I just gotta go jam 10 pounds of something into my 5 pound bag... ;)
