Leather MK VII?
Anybody ever thought about having a leather MK VII made? I was thinking either a pre distressed brown, or a dark brown cowhide. Ive got hardware, off of a donor bag that was destroyed by bleach by attempting to remove the black stripe. I even found a seamstress that makes custom leather purses and could do the job. What do you guys think?

My canadian MkVII has that exact thing. I think it's common on the Canadian ones. A press-stud flap on the little pocket, makes safe keeping if you have anything small enough to go in there. I never thought about putting a zippo in there. Good idea!ob1al wrote:
I seem to recall that a version of the MKVII was produced which had a pocket top over thatlittle pouch...or maybe I just dreamt it?

I think the best source for canadian MK VII's is ebay right now. As for hardware, the disc can be taken of off a british s6 bag (swindy's find), the strap rings could be had at a hardware store usually, and the vents.....hmm an old matress? Snaps can easily be found online or at any craft store.

I'm talking to daughter number two to try making me one when she returns from the Arizonia Renn Faire too. This should prove interesting. Thanks for coming up with this idea, Clinton!!! Oh, there are several 'metal stamping' companies on the internet that have these kind of discs, but unfortunately, they're sold in bulk. Regards. Michaelson

Hey CLinton IM excited to hear what you find out. Ill be going to my leather person with the next week or two, and Im going to see what she says.
As for color matching, IM not sure you could replicate an olive drab color with leather. I take that back, Im sure its made (leather comes in every color imaginable, even fluorescent) but finding it would be the hard part. I was thinking of just geting a distressed brown leather....
And pricing, you would really just have to wait and see how much the patterning, and total labor costs come to.
Cheers

Oooooo Leather
GO FOR IT! I've been thinking about it for a year and just have not got around to it. If I do get to it I think I'll have mine made slightly larger -- How much is enough room? --- Just a little bit more. Good luck.

If you're looking for a disc and don't want to butcher a real Mk VII, here might be something:
