Last year ordered an authentic lamb raiders size 44 L but thought it felt a little big and changed for a 42 L which was a much closer fit. Keep looking a pics of the 44 L and cant help but feel that maybe i should have kept the bigger jacket after all as looking back it looked nicer especially when its zipped up.Think the 42 L looks too tight zipped up .I,m 6 ,0 tall and fairly broad across shoulders.I'm very tempted to try and sell this jacket and go for a 44 L with a few extra mods like extra inch up front for rideup and elastic for the pleats.Got a feeling the pleats are pulling open because maybe it could do with being a little wider across my shoulders. What are your opinions of the back shot of the jacket comparing the 44 and 42.Think maybe the 44 is too big but the 42 a bit tight. arrrrrghhhhhh . What do u guys reckon ?? Have labelled the pics 44L and 42 L so u can compare : http://public.fotki.com/simmo/my_indy_jacket/

What is your actual chest measurement? If you like the closer fit, then
you should add 4 inches to your actual chest measurement, and thats what
the garment chest measurement on your jacket should be. Now, your size
42 Wested garment chest measurement is 46 inches. That is Wested's
standard sizing. Their jackets incorporate 4 inches of movement room
over the tagged size. So, if you have a 42 inch chest, and you like a
closer fit, then the size 42 is good for you, as it will measure 46 inches.

If you like your jackets with a little looser fit, and you like to wear layers
under it, then add 6 inches to your actual chest measurement, and thats
what the garment chest measurement should be. The size 44 Wested,
when you add in the 4 inches of movement room, will have a garment
chest measurement of 48 inches. So, if your chest is 42 inches, then you
will have your 6 inches of movement room, which will give you the looser
feel if thats what you want.

The fact that you are asking the question of how the jacket fits you is
really your answer. You don't need us to tell you what to do. Even if
people tell you that the jacket looks great, if it does not fit you the way
YOU want, then its just going to sit in the closet.

Also, remember, as we get older, we get fatter. Its just a fact of life. If
you get the jacket with a little extra room in it, you'll be able to wear it
for more years than a tighter fitting one.

Edit: I got it now. I think the 42L looks better. If you look at the pictures of Indy, you will see that they front of his jecket parts in precisely the same manner as yours. Also, in looking at the back of the 44L, there is entirely too much material bunching up at the shoulders.

I think you did the right thing. I don't think the 44L would have been egregiously ill-fitting, but the 42L is a much more tailored look. One warning: do not gain any weight! :D

I think the 42 looks better too - it seems to hang better when open.

Personally I prefer an Indy jacket to be a tight fit - I think thats an important aspect in acheiving the look.

I'd have to go with Hem'n' Ken.
The 42 just looks better and hangs better when open... the 44 is getting that "bell" look.
Not to say that the jacket isn't really nice in 44 as well :)
So, I'd stick with the 42

Cheers

Unless you're shaped like a 'bell'....as I am now, a 44 is the way to go. 8) Otherwise, I also agree with the crowd here. :D Regards. Michaelson

Thanks for all the replies.Nice to get others opinions.if i keep asking my wife what she thinks reckon i'll get a slap before long ! Although i dont wear my jacket zippered very often when i do i dont think this one looks right.Think it would be better with the extra inch for the dreaded rideup but maybe i'll stick with this one until i put on a few pounds ! Thinking about getting one of fedoras adventurbilts but dont know if my wife would be able to take the obsessing with that too !

Yep.Yours looks spot on langpuss. Not sure if mine looks so good zippered up.Yours looks a bit more broken in than mine so maybe that might help once mines become a bit softer. Now if only i could get my hands on some acetone.Bloody hard to get hold of over here!

Both look great. Obviously the 42 is more fitted...and I do notice in your photos that you seem to be wearing only a T-shirt. Try on both when wearing a heavier shirt and see how you feel.
