Force 10 From Navarone Coats

Post by Michigan Smith »

Maybe off topic, but I was just watching Force 10 last night and have two questions to throw out to the knowledge base here. What US army coat/jacket did HF wear in this movie? It looked like a M65, but with a standard collar (i.e. no hood tucked down the zipper in back of the collar). I'm sure it was probably an earlier model/version of the modern M65, leading to my point-what would the jacket model number and does anyone know of a maker of replicas/repros. Secondly, Robert Shaw's leather vest was cool, I think they were standard part of the British Commando uniform. Anyone know a source for repros of these?

I haven't watched that film in a while but I believe the coat that Ford wore in Force 10 was the Field Jacket M1943. It was first used in small quanties at Anzio for field trials but due to bad planning and supply mishaps, it was not delivered in quantity to our troops untill Jan '45. Originals can still be found but repros are out there and are less expensive. The leather "Jerken" worn by Bob Shaw was popular with the British and Canadian forces. Good surplus available examples of these could recently be ordered from International Military Antiques, www.ima-usa.com. However they may be gone by now. Love those war films!
