Indy Stunt Show Gear
Well guys and gals, we just came back from chilly Florida where I saw the Indy show at MGM. Although I did like the show, "Indy's" gear was just all wrong. Wrong kind of belt , and his MkVI looked like a canvas mailbag. When we were walking out after the show, my wife told me that the stage director and the guy playing Indy were staring hard at me. Then she said " you just look better than he does" lol . All I wore in at the time was my fedora and my Cabella's shirt. I told her that there are a lot of nit pickers out there {including myself} who want to see things look like they actually put some effort into it. Maybe we should all get together and send some nice suggestions to them? Anyway, I did like the show, and I'll recommend it to those who haven't seen it.

I have to assume 2 things. First off, the crew probably go thru gear a lot, so it could get pretty expensive to go 'authentic', and the average person isn't 'versed' in gear, like we are.
Also, if they sell similar gear in the gift shops, then they can charge a lot for it, and kids are none the wiser.

Actually he did have a whip. It was a 10 footer and he appeared to know how to use it. It was used during the show. I was telling my wife about his costume being all inacurate. She was amazed that I knew all this stuff but I have to give credit where credit is due. This board has shown me a lot of nifty stuff !

When I saw the show back in 1993, they had Indy intermittenly carrying a whip. For the temple sequence, he isn't carrying it, but has it (and subsequently drops it) during the Cairo marketplace sequence. Finally, he ISN'T carrying it for the Flying Wing sequence. I remember his whip being not very screen accurate, either.Pyroxene wrote:did he have a whip?
Again, my info is dated, but if they haven't changed the show (and I can't see why they would) then that should be about right.

I feel your pain, Disney bamboozled me too, only with their Dorfman Pacific hats.Fedora jr. wrote:True. My first Fedora was a Disney Leather Fedora that I thought was authentic .
I just reviewed my four-year-old video of the stunt show. "Indy" has his bag in the temple, but not his whip. Then he has his whip for the Cairo scene, but not his bag. And then both wind up missing for the flying wing sequence.
The teardrop crown on the hat was clearly visible, so they use their own merchandise.
The jacket didn't look too bad, although the quality of the video wasn't that great. I enjoyed the show, though.

I have had the good fortune to chat with the stunt guys each time I see the show (always a different guy). Keep in mind, this is way before I discovered COW. One thing I do remember is that stupid little Disney pin glued to the bow of the "Fedora", as well as seeing the Adventure Gear Disney logo on the shirt. The stunt guys taht I've talked too asked me where I get MY gear, and all I do is smile and say, "that's a trade secret". And I, too have fallen into the Disney Trap. Exactly one year after I bought the Disney leather jacket, I discovered COW. A year or two before that, I had purchased the DP fed. If I only knew.......

The Stunt actor,
Who i talked to last time i was there, told me
that they go through 2 pairs of shoes per week,
4 shirts, and 2 pairs of pants. This is in a uasual week.
The hat also had a Elastic cord attached to it.

Hey thunderquack, when were you at MGM? I left last Monday and came back home yesterday from Florida. Man, I wish I had run into you!
I have many pics of the show that I will post up soon!
- I think, for a public audience, the clothes and gear get the job done. The only thing I REALLY can't stand is the holster........wow...
AsI said, you'll see what I mean in some pics I'll be putting up probably tomorrow.
Take Care!

Well, they have Marion's costume way off...they have her in a red top and white pants (and a hood too I think). In the movie she has a white top and red pants.
Oh and Andy, welcome back...I'm glad you made it home safely. Did they close Magic Kingdom at noon again this year due to it being at full capacity?

Thanks ITG! Too bad about your pics thunderquack, maybe next time.....but hey, at least you and I didn't travel to WDW in the summer time......ouch..
They did close the Magic Kingdom, at 4:00-4:30 or so. Wow, I just didn't realize that over 75,000 could fit in there!
It was FREEZING on one of the days I went to see the show, so the Indy stunt man wore the leather jacket throughout the Market Place Scene and the German Mechanic Fight. The German Mechanic was wearing a sweater.
The cool thing was, I actually knew one of the stunt men! He worked at the Indy Ride here at DL, and I used to see him all the time (he was one of those 'Arab Gymnastics'. I really hopedI could have run into a gear-head there, but oh well....
(Yes, Marion's clothes are all off, and she's even wearing Reebox!)
Later today I'll be posting up pics and stuff in the 'Scrapbook' setion! Take care!
