I noticed that in some scenes of the Indy movies the whip is like a rope and in some other scenes very stiff( you can see it in the beginning of raiders when holds the coiled whip in his hand). But for example, on the airplanefight the whip is hanging like a rope on the holder(with rope I mean that you can't coil it well)
Hope I explained it well ( its always a procedur to make many sentences, you know I'm German )

Is it normal that the whip is a bit stiff ?

Mike,
A lot of different whips were used in the movies. I think around 30 were supplied overall, and I'm sure that some were used a lot more than others, and while one whip may have been almost new in one scene, it may have been used a lot before being used in another scene. So at times you are probably seeing a fairly new whip, which is going to be stiffer than one that had seen a lot of use as filming progressed.

Mike,
If you watch closely the whip is limp and hangs in oval coils ANYTIME it's shown on his belt. I think these whips were softened for that effect, as it just looks better. My Joe Strian, even after three years, is quite stiff and hangs in stiff round coils. It looks funny, not to mention it spends most of its time swinging around and hitting me in the crotch. A whip coiled in round coils also looks/interacts poorly with the bag, nothing seems to hang right and it kinda throws the whole look off. Just my opinions, based on what I've experienced with my own gear.
