Turns out I do have a digital camera.

Here are some pics of the new Authentic Lambskin Raiders.
I've included pictures of the back panel to show how it doesn't extend to
the seams. Also, I've noticed that the "square sliders" are different from a
year ago. Also, no hidden stitching under straps to hold panel closed.

I saw nothing wrong with the panel and also, I´m waiting for my 46 Long Jacket;if it looks as good as yours does,I´m in for a treat!

BTW,does it fit you correctly,I was a little uncertain about the fit when I ordered mine.....Could you `private message` me about the measurements of the jacket?

Also, I think this panel was more tapered than on the next one.

Nice jacket there, indy1936. On my current jacket I have the black D-rings. They have started to distress nicely and a silvery colour has started to show through. Love it! Maybe your rectangungular ones are made the same way?

Great lookin' jacket Indy1936! I think the back panels look fine, although I can understand that it would bother you if you requested that they be extended all the way to the seams. I didn't realize that the current sliders were different from the old ones. That's too bad. I like the looks of the old style a little better than the new ones. How about some pics of you wearing the jacket?

I much prefer the back panel NOT to extend all the way out to the seam. My goat has the extended panels, my lamb doesn't - I like the back of the lambskin better. It just sits better on my frame and I prefer the way it looks.

I agree with OB1AL, I have both variations, and altho the panel extended is screen accurate, I've grown to like the look of the non accurate style.
Seems to offset the look of the back panel, and gives it more character.

One thing I noticed about getting the panel extended, and would also comply with why mine, and Als jackets sits better on our backs:

Seems that on mine, the sleeves were just attached further back to make up for the difference in material, hence a narrower back panel.
Peter probably has to do this so he can use the skins he has, since larger hides are harder to come by in the lamb and goat leathers.

For instance, my lamb with the fully extended back, has a back seam measurement of 20", while both of my other Wested lambs had a back seam measurement of 21 1/2" with the back panel shy of the end seam by 1/2" on each side, respectfully.

Just an observation in my experience, and hope this doesn't cause an uproar.

that makes sense. i was thinking the same. it does drape better when not extended. i got this reply from Gerry:

"The reason the back panel cannot go all the way to the edge is because the seams are thick when using leather and you would get very unsightly ridges or bumps where the seams all piled on top of one another. It is also nigh impossible to get a needle through the layers in order to pile them up. Reducing the thickness of the leather would not assist this problem, but would leave you with a flimsy jacket."

this pictures shows the differences in panels that i have seen:

this seems to make sense in cases where the jacket is like Swindiana's who's panel was actually on TOP of the seam #1. this creates the piling of the leather. but i dont see how the explanation accounts for not having the panel extended to the edge but not on top of the seam as with ShanghaiJack's #2. #3 is not extended at all.
