back panel answers?

the wested back panel seems to ship in several forms. i have seen the panel .5 inch from the shoulder seam. i have seen it right next to the seam and i have seen it right on top of the seam. which is accurate?

i popped in the raiders dvd and i think the answer is that they are all accurate. when satipo points out the spiders on indy's back you can see the left side of the jacket and there is a .5 - 3/4 inch gap between the back panel and the seam. however right after this when indy graps satipo after the whip swing over the pit they are right on.

throughout the movie i have been spotting variations of this sort. i guess depending on the jacket used for each scene you will get a different result.
i spoke with J(G)erry? i believe and he said they try to get it as close as possible but sometimes leather thickness etc makes it difficult because the jacket would bulge in the back. he examined several jackets he had there and there was about .5 inch space on average. hmmmm?

any thoughts guys?

You are correct in that they are all accurate. I personally like mine all the way out the shoulder seam. It is a matter of scene accurate rather than screen accurate. It just depends on your preference.

hmm maybe in the spider scene it does extend. its hard to tell. looks like the top of it is bent hiding the extension to the seam. haha oh well

I too was wondering about this myself....Good topic!! :D

If I am correct, the Flightsuits jacket, has the back panel "just about" extended completely.... VERY close.

Kind Regards,

I asked this question of Bill, who cuts the jacket. Different sizes of jackets mean the seams match up in different places - as I am smaller the seam tends to be on the yoke or above it whereas with peopel larger than myself it seems to be below.

The reason Bill gave was different sizes, different styles and different modifications (eg- gussets). I dont think its something that attention is paid to in itself and it will simply result depending on the construction of the rest of the jacket.

Thankfully it doesn't really bother me.
