Hi all
Getting ready to order my first Wested. I have a question about measuring the sleeve. Do you measure from the inside(armpit) to the cuff, or the top of shoulder to cuff? With arm hanging or extended?
The Wested website says measure from shoulder to cuff. My mom threw a bit of confusion into the mix. She told me tailors measure from the armit to the cuff. Similar to measuring a pant rise, from the inside of the leg to the cuff.
So how did anyone here measure their sleeves?

I think you should measure from the shoulder tip to the first knuckle of the thumb.

I WOuld think from the shoulder to the cuff, but if you're uncertain, measure both and tell Peter your concern. He'll get it right for you. Also, this is another reason why I prefer to call him as opposed to e-mail. If you have any questions, he can answer them right then and there and set your mind at ease. Also, if you're particular about certain measurements (I gave him my neck size even) then he'll take that into account. Good luck!

Over - from the shoulder to the first knuckle on your thumb.

I've never heard of the armpit to cuff measurement, but it won't hurt Wested to have that info. They might even reccommend dropping the armhole a bit

The under-arm measurement is what's called a "coat sleeve" measurement. I've been in alot of weddings over the past few years and all the tux shops use this for the sleeve length. It doesn't hurt to give this to Wested, but also give the outside measurement, as this is what they ask for. The more info the better, it helps paint a better picture of your proportions.

I measured an old leather coat I had that put the sleeves where I liked them for length (and had the shoulder seam right at the top of the arm/shoulder-not hanging over the arm or falling down the arm). I also gave them my shirt sleeve length (measure from base of neck out to middle of hand) as a reference.

the shoulder to the first knuckle of the thumb is the way to go - this prevents any riding up and making you look like you have gorilla arms. I found that if you go by Wested measuring suggestions, you cannot go wrong. Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies! I really appreciate the fact that Wested makes these jackets as custom (within reason) as you specify. I have a short torso with longer arms. Hence the "gorilla jokes" from the wife. But can she reach the top shelves without a step stool?....Noooo!

As anxious as I am to get my Wested, I am going to stick to the old addage, "measure twice, cut once" and take my time with it.

Smart move, Feraud. If you let Peter know everything like this, and send as many measurements as possible, you should be just fine. But it is wise to be thourough with your measurements. Post pics of the "gorilla" jacket when it comes in!
