Hey guys, I'm in trhe process of buying a whip, and I need some suggestions (again..I know...
)
Well, anyways, I found this site here -
http://www.em-brand-whips.com/bullwhips.htm
Also, which color would you recommend to get that would look the most 'ROTLA whip' - ish?
I am interested in the 8' 8 plait whip, but I need to know if anyone has had experience with this vendor.
EC Whips is my other choice, along with the 'budget' whips Winrich Whips are sellin now.

Em Brand can be
highly recommended - Bernie is a well respected maker and he produces top class whips.
I used to own a 10 foot roo hide Indy and it was a lovely bit of kit, a little long for my limited skills though so I no longer own it - but I can highly recommend Bernie's work!

Alright I see, he's good..
Now, which color do you recommend? (THis is not a final descision)

Well, I think that's just a matter of personal taste.
I prefer a natural roohide colour, but the darker brown 'whiskey' ot 'Tan' coloured whips are very nice too and probably closer to what we see on the screen.

That being said, I slove my IOAB Winrich whip. If these puppies are nicely made whips, I can only imagine how nice his other whips are. But it comes down to personal taste and choice in the long run, since there are more than a few good whip makers around here.
And I'm finding that I'm turning into a crack addict, too! I don't have good space to crack it, but I found myself sneaking out into the side alley for a couple cracks just to get it out of my system!

Thanks Langpuss for the plug.
About EM-Brand I can also highly recommend. I've owned a 6 ft bullwhip of his. He has made whips for Western Stage Props for many years. So he can pretty much make you a whip to your specifications. If you want an 8 plait 8 ft Indy whip, that's what he'll do.

You're one of the founding members of CAA, aren't you?
Do you have any suggestions for a crack addict who can't find the space (or weather) to crack in?

Bink,
You need to get you an armchair whip about 3 to 4 feet long. Watch TV and crack the whip during the commercials. I've got a 39" stockwhip with a 16" handle that works pretty good inside on those cold and rainy days.
Bink, I believe that you should be a member of CAA also.

Bink;
I think we're becoming the Renderkings of IOAB Winrich whips.
Best whip I've whipped in all my whippin' years.
I really like my whip and the price is unbeatable so far.

LOL!!! Well it rings true only because it's the only whip I've ever owned, period! I love my IOAB whip, though, and the price is excellent for the whip! I'd love to have the opportunity to try out a bunch of whips from different vendors, though.
And yes, my name is bink, and I'm a crackaholic.
Robert, I love the idea of the "armchair whip" but I'm not sure my wife (or the cats!) would approve.
Besides, I'm still on the circus crack!

Hi Bink,
have you ever seen the miniture stockwhips or bullwhips? I know Mike Murphy sells the stockwhip version, (not sure about the bullwhip) but
a few members in the WhipEnthusiast have them and use them indoors
for fly swaters
.
I think there like two feet long,
fun little whips to be sure, ideal for indoors, probley the perfect type to use while brushing your teeth, or sitting in the armchair,
.
Cheers!

I owe one of BernieĀ“s (EM-Brand) whips, and he/it is very fine!
In Raiders the whip is more "tan" as it is quite light. When You move
towards LC You need to get the "whiskey" as this is how the tan would be like when darkened up over some years of use and sunlight.
And..remember a 10 ft. is the one!
And dont mind Ob1al statement about it being to long/difficult to crack - it is not as long as You are not afraid of pain (do You mind pain, Al
)!
Naa.. seriously You will get to it - no problem!
Best regards
JAN

LOL - Well Jan, I'm not afraid of pain
per se...but if I try to crack a 10 footer indoors and break my wife's best vase , THAT sort of pain I
am afraid of!

Andy - I wish I'd realized you were in the market for a whip, I would have tossed my IOAB at you - when your parents weren't looking.
You got to see it in action, it's a bit heavy, but Dal, Serg, ITG, PBG, McFly, and I think a couple others tried it (it's all a whip-wielding blur now), so I'd PM some of them and ask them what they thought of it - if they remember trying it, that is.
If you are thinking of getting one whip, ever, just one, I'd suggest the IOAB in 8' length. 8' is still short enough to learn on, but not so short as a 6', which might want you wanting a longer one some day. And since it's cowhide, it will take much more of a beating, which for a beginner like me is perfect.
But I don't know the other whips, I only know mine. Use the force, young Padewan...

Andiana,
Ill just put it out there as a choice for you,
even though I havent been around that long.
Im currently making a Whip for IndyBlues and
Kris. 115 for a 8 foot 8 plait bullwhip(cow), with 2 plaited
bellys and 1 bolster. Just letting you know.
You should expect a little bit of a wait too.
Thanks
Adam

Andy,
If waiting is an issue, I could have an IOAB whip made within a day of your order right now. If it is going to be your first whip, I would recommend wearing one of these out while developing your whipcracking technique. I also feel that I've gotten the weight nearly perfected.
You might also want to keep an eye on the whip that I put on Ebay yesterday. Look in the classifieds for information as to how to find it. I sold a whip like that on Ebay a year ago and it went for $180. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this one goes for more.
Happy Shopping

Andiana,
I agree with Adam--my first whip was about $80: an 8-plait cowhide. It looked pretty close (not NEARLY as close as Adam's masterpieces) and I learned a TON off it. After about 2 years, the thing was ready for the garage sale. You will make mistakes, and your whip WILL pay the punishment for those mistakes. So get a good starter whip then graduate to a nicer one after you tear that one up.

Cant people say who they are talking about?
Say Winrich, if thats who it is. This whole
name thing is getting mighty confusing.

Good point - I met yet another Adam on the QM, and I had to ask him Which One Are You? His clever response: Which One Do You Like?
