Been there for years. PB was one of the very first to come to the table for us gearheads. I tried on this prototype when I was down there last August, and it's a VERY comfortable hat. It was 108 degrees F heat index (REALLY! ) the day we were there, and I'd have given my eyeteeth to have had one to wear that day! Regards. Michaelson

Can you get the straw custom (i.e. crown height, brim size) like any other of PB's offerings? I would think so, but I am not sure how "easy" it is to customize a straw fedora.

Also, how lightweight is it Michaelson? I have a old Dorfman Indy straw and it feels like it weighs 300 pounds. If this is a thin, comfy straw, then this is definitley a steal!

Thanks!

It was pretty lightweight to me, and I had just removed my vintage Borsalino to try it on, and it seemed comparable to me. As to the height question...that's one to direct to Joe Sr. I really have no idea myself. They can steam and block the straw just like felt (I watched Joe work on one while we were visiting), so it's something that CAN be worked like felt. As to how much...that's for them to answer. Drop them a line! Regards. Michaelson

Is the dark brown the only color offering they have? I'd love it in a lighter brown...

That's the only one I saw. You may want to call or email Joe and see if there's anything other colors available. I'll drop him a line too and see. Regards. Michaelson

I was there for the birth of this hat back in June and I remember Joe saying that the crown height could be adjusted (to a point obviously). The only thing Joe mentioned he could not do to the hat was get a dimensional brim. I think the brim is around 2 7/8. When I was up there this past Saturday, Joe was really excited about getting the hat up on the website.

I figured with band camp in summer, you'd be first in line for one of these, BDJ! :D Regards. Michaelson

I haven't ordered one yet, though I do have it on my list of thing to ask my wife permission to buy. Of course, with the amount of hats she walked out of the shop with on Saturday, I should have PLENTY of leverage when the time comes.

So this is the fabled hat I've heard so much about...
Michaelson, so all the dimensions are like the Indy hat?
Lookin' good.

So, did you find anything out about the colors, Michaelson?

As I understand it, they're currently out of the shop at a rodeo. They're supposed to be back either this week or next...before Christmas. Regards. Michaelson

If I remember correctly, Joe Sr. said that other colors were available to get, but that they only had the brown. Of course, this was back in late June and I've started school, had three marching contests, a long football season, and now a Christmas concert to contend with, so my memory may be a little faulty. :?

Any more pictures?
If i saw a shot of the inside of this
and the front, i might seriously consider
getting it.

I just ordered one of these 'cause I'm planning to go on vacation in February to the Caribbean and its apt to be a bit too hot for my Borsalino. I opted for the brown because I like the color. I will give a bit more feedback when I get it (probably some time in January).
