*SIGH* Relief.

I wish this same sensation for everyone else awaiting their Wested. You'll get it guys, and then the waiting will seem like a dream. ("I promise you, just get that ball into the endzone, and you won't feel ANY pain.")

Here it is, my brand spanking new Wested LC-style authentic brown lamb. 44R, Raiders collar, extra inside pocket, both inner pockets w/ facings and zips, d-rings, and a bit more taper due to my non-standard dimensions (broad shoulders, slim waist). Oh, and silly me, I forgot the x-boxes, and they apparently are not standard. Rats...next time.

I see Texas Jones got his just a day before mine, but he felt the lamb a bit stiff...hunh...maybe subjective, maybe difference in two separate lamb skins, but mine feels like BUTTER, soft, supple, I can already get draping in the sleeves...this is the last leather jacket I'll ever buy - aside from ANOTHER Wested!

I just DON'T want to take this off...so the suggestion to sleep in it a few times is NOT going to be a problem...planning to go 'accidentally' fall asleep on the couch in a few...

The only one thing I see I may have done wrong (aside from forgetting the x-boxes) - the leather facings on the inner pockets was a decision I came to because I want to do whatever I can to combat the possibility of 'lamb sag', so zips and leather facings on the pockets to add structure seemed like a good idea. And it probably still WILL do just that, but I hadn't counted on the extra leather on the inside possibly showing trace bulges/lines through the soft thin outer layer of the jacket.

But this may not show wear over time to reveal it. Heck, if I DO decide to distress this, I can always choose wear pattern to help disguise that. Now that I've got it in hand, I'm having second thoughts about taking sandpaper to my baby! This may be just me, the proud new father, seeing flaws where there are none. I counted my daughters fingers and toes in the hospital three times each, and getting counts of 40, 41, and 39, I rationalized that the average was a pretty good indication everything was copecetic.

Oh, BONUS points for COW: The guy at the Post Office counter asked if there was something wrong, since I was looking at the package funny, like I ordered lobster and someone brought me beaver ...take a look, I expected a larger package, maybe a box, but this parcel doesn't even extend from my knee to my ankle!

And I realized it was time to WOW somebody again..."What would you say if I told you the man who made the original jackets for Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones movies made me the exact same jacket to my own measurements - for under $300?" Before I left he'd written down wested.com and indygear.com, and we soon may have another new member.

About the X-stich - just take it to someone who can sew in leather
and have them sew the "X". Its not a big deal, really.

Do bite marks count as natural distressing?

Depends. We had a member several years ago wear his lambskin on a trip to Asia, and while visiting some Tibetian temples, had a monkey attack him. It left bite marks on his jacket sleeve, but never got through to him, so his marks were indeed 'field tested' distressing. Now, if you're fending off some teething rug rat...I'm not sure if that counts or not.

With a 6 year old, a 3 year old and a 9 month old baby...it happens to me all the time!

Yes, it is a different type of lambskin, as I requested firmer stock. It gives you the ruggedness to ensure a lifetime of adventures, and the smoothness of grain to get the Raiders look. I definately recommend to those who are on the fence as far as lamb/goat, to request a firmer stock of lambskin intead of goat. Just my opinion.

Sorry I've been missing...busy days at work. Just stopped in to say I took more pics, outside even, and I figured out how the 'timer' feature on my camera works so you won't have to see Indiana Jerry and The Loo of Doom so much anymore!

Hopefully tonight I'll have a bit more time - I'll try to remember to update the thread title when I add the pics.

Oh, btw, I did in fact wear my Wested ALL DAY yesterday at work...meetings and all. Folks who knew I'd been waiting for it were humming the Raiders March whenever I entered a room...it was kind of nice having a soundtrack... ...so long as it doesn't become an unbreakable habit of theirs.

Several people I work w/ yesterday went to check out wested.com...Peter's gonna be busy through MARCH.

Did you get the extra inch in the front for when it rides up if you zip up the jacket. Sometimes, I wish that I had done that, but then, I don't think I ever will wear this jacket zipped up. Personally, I don't think this jacket looks that good when it is worn zipped up. I think it looks much better unzipped and then it doesn't need the extra inch.

I got it un-mod'd. That's an LC jacket w/ a Raiders collar...although I admit I haven't measured the collar. It looks good, why muck w/ it? Now, who knows if it ended up higher or lower based on my proportions...I think a bit lower, but I like it where it is.

The sleeves actually hang lower - down half my thumb - when I throw down my arm to check it - it just seems to ride up a tiny bit naturally, which is what you see in the pics. The sleeves are already forming to my arms, and so far it doesn't look like it will come in too short...confession time: been wearing it pretty much two days straight.

Re: the length - no ride up problems. Even w/o gussets, there's enough flex and stretch to the lamb that I don't think I need them - especially if it's unzipped.

The length in the back is perfect for me, except I'm not used to having leather behind by butt when I'm driving...still slippery, so I'm sliding around a bit...unlike other posts that talk about not liking the jacket sliding up when driving, I actually hike the back up a bit so it's not directly behind my butt so I stop sliding around. (What the heck am I talking about? Try this: Most race driving instructors will tell you one of the best ways to get your car to corner better is to get a better seatbelt. Wha? Because the sliding around is disorienting and alarming, and you naturally go more cautious - unless you are NAILED into the seat. Me, I drive a truck, but I drive it over everything. In LA, that means curbs and bushes.

P.S. The lamb does show everything inside - it just conforms to anything behind it. See something in the front right cargo pocket (left if looking at it)? Small pack of chocolate chip cookies...breakfast IS the most important meal of the day.

I have a Raiders lamb instead of LC. I never have had it bother me while driving, but you are correct, you can't drive if you are sliding all over the seat.

You must have measured good, it looks like you got a perfect fit. I really like the lamb. I am sure you are going to love wearing your jacket.

Thanks, Buffle. No way could I have gotten it this well fitted w/o COW. I took all the advice, obsessed, then threw it out and started again fresh.

The biggest thing was figuring out what DIDN'T matter. Gerry and Peter were great ruling stuff out for me. "I always have to get bigger shirts solely for the neck size" - "Don't worry, a 44R comes standard with a 19 inch neck" - amazingly patient people. Face it, the average COW member is nuts when it comes to ordering a jacket.

So I took my own measurements, then went to a tailor and let him try it, threw his out since they were ridiculous, and then sent my own to Peter. Bingo.

The jacket looks great, Jerry! And yes, the Wested crew are wonderful folks! I told Peter that I had concerns about the neck size, so I gave him my neck measurements, too. Any concern I had about the fit Peter jotted down and assured me it'd be fine. The man knows what he's doing! I love my Wested!

Can I make a (nitpicky) suggestion Jerry?

Your collar looks very 'straight'. You might want to consider playing with the collar a bit to get some 'curl' going on there. It's just my personal preference, but I always think Westeds look waaay cooler with a bit of curl in the collar. Makes it look a bit 'lived in' and just more Indy to my eye.

I'm forever shaping and tweaking my jacket collar to this end. Just a thought, disregard it if you will.

BTW - that jacket is a perfect fit, looks good on you - well done mate!

Not nit-picky at all, Al, I consider that good advice, and noticed the 'straightness' myself...they are relaxing now, and beginning to curl. Really want to get some curl in before the neck-seam part of the collar relaxes...if they end up flattening out, it's all down disco-hill from there...

Welcome to the club, LandingParty...a word to the wise, work on some other part of your gear while waiting for your Wested, so you don't go stark barking bonkers. (There is a support group for that though...)

And congratulations! I think the Lamb is a great choice, and it hasn't appeared to have had the same delays as the goatskins. Although, if they've got the goats now, there's a backlog to be worked off either way. Not trying to scare you, just normalize your expectations...

P.S. I'm also in LA, and I chose the lamb due to the lighter weight, so I could wear it more than one day a year. Good choice!
