My Own Version of an Adventurer's Hat

I was in Australia last summer, (yes went to Katoomba, but no time to visit the Hattery), where I picked up a fedora. It is an Akubra Leisuretime and is a charcoal color. I took the original band off and replaced it with the belly of a saltwater croc and then brought the front pinch in a bit to make it look unique amongst other Leisurtime models. It really is a nice looking hat, if I do say so myself, though I may be a little biased. Not exactly "Indy's Hat", but "Steven's Hat", which works for me! If you want pics, let me know, and please tell me how to post them, I want to show you guys my creation!!!

I've done something similar. I've taken an Akubra Coober Pedy model, pinched the bash a lot harder than standard, and replaced the frankly wussy band with inset opal for a plaited Kangaroo band.

The belly of a saltwater croc?
Doesn't that make it....a Crocodile Dundee hat?
Pics!

That fact always made me wonder why the Dundee part came into it!

Perhaps the hat lining is tartan?

Haha, actually Akubra sells a model called "The Croc" which is supposedly the hat Paul Hogan wore in the film. I have seen the Coobery Pedy's, nice looking hat but I have to agree with you on the band. That kangaroo plate must be awesome. I would post pics, but I truly have no idea how to do so as I do not currently have a web domain to upload them to. The minute I do, I shall show off my CREATION!!! IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIIVVEEEEE. Halloween still lingers. Cheers.

www.villiagephotos.com is a good domain to upload photos to. I have a lot of pix on there, and best of all, it's free

The way I understood it was that the hat used in the movies was an Akubra Down Under. The Croc came later to take advantage of the success of the film. Nowhere have I been able to find a good crocodile tooth headband for my hat. The teeth are too small, too far apart and they generally do not encompass the entire crown. Usually you get 5-9 teeth spread out to cover the front of the hat. It looks better coming than going...

Rick, you definately right on this one. I saw "The Croc" model they had. It may very well be that it was a different model used in the film, this is just what an Australian Hattery told me. Beside the hat they displayed a picture of the croc man himself, and it was that photo that convinced me not to buy it. As you mentioned, the croc bands they put on their hats now look NOTHING like Paul Hogans. I'm assuming this is because the sale of the hats would be too expensive with the size teeth on the film hats, as any croc you buy over there (legally

) comes from farmed animals.
