Taper

Post by Strider »

Ok, call me a newbie but I don't know what 'Taper' is. Can someone please explain to me what this word means when used in relation to a hat, and what can be done to prevent it? Thanks!

Basically, a Raiders hat should look like this II but taper looks like this / \ - and I'm talking about the crown of the hat here.

When the straight sides of the crown of the hat start to slant inwards, reverting back to a 'cone' shape - that's taper.

What can be done to prevent it? In my experience, not a lot - all my hats have tapered sooner or later, but to extend the 'life' of a block some rain guard (scotch guard or special felt protector) might help.
