Thoughts on whip holders

I recently came to think about whip holders. In my opinion there is no such thing as a useable whip holder yet. Because they either are too complicatet to handle or the whip will slip. Even Todd's excelent idea depends on how the whip is rolled up.

In London Jan used a very nice green rubber band to tighten his whip to his whip holder. This gave me the idea to include a good wide rubber band in a whip holder. So the whip would always sit thight to the whip holder. There is only one minor issue. In my design the whip is relly resting on the elastic an not on the whip holder. What do you think?

Very clever!

I might add that to the one I made too. I also added a Chicago screw that will do pretty much what your locking mechanism does, but with a slit in the leather to wrap around it instead. (UK summit goers might remember the official plastic whip bag, not very Indy. )

Nice goin', buddy!

That's what my whipartist whipholder looks like, but my whip is resting on the leather, not a rubber band.

I don't think it matters that the whip is on the band, and not the holder itself.

Does that solve the problem of the holder trying to pop open? I see you have a twist latch instead, so maybe that was never an issue for you.

My real question is: is there a way to make the whip SNUG inside the whip holder, without that meaning the whipholder BARELY closes?

This is exactley what the elastic does. It presses the whip in the holder so it fits tightley. I thought of a different design too. Basicley is made from nylon and you close and adjust it with velcro....though it works great it doesn't look so sharp.....

So the outer loop (the visible part) isn't under stress to hold the whip, so it stays closed better? Neat, that's what I was wondering.

Well, could be, I don't know because I don't use pusch buttons. But it is likely...... :!: :?:

I really like that turn clasp. It looks very retro. Does it slow down your "draw" as opposed to a snap?

Not at all beacause it's one movement...I guess....

That is nice, I meant to ask - where did you have to look to pick up something like that (the turn clasp)?

I know a place here in Sweden were you can get them in case you can't find one. Try a place were they would also have boat covers and ropes. That's what they say these turn clasps are for in this particular store, to go on boat covers so that you can fasten them easily without it blowing open.

I live on the coast - I should have just looked in a 'BOATING Hardware Store'. :) Thanks for the offer, though. :)
