Hi,
I'm looking for a good Panama fedora with an affordable price, water resistant, and won't look like a cowboy hat. I'm not neccessary looking for anything screen accurate to the Indy movies but that would be a nice bonus.
Now, I've looked at a few sites and I really like the way the "Panama Classic" on this site below but I've heard negative things about shushans.

I purchased a hat through Panama Hatworks of Montecristi. ( http://www.panamas.biz/index.htm ) Robert offered a Indiana Jones inspired version that is fantastic. Tall crown and a wide brim. Be prepared for a long wait. It took 4 1/2 months to arrive. I ordered early January and it came in Memorial Day weekend.

Can anyone tell me anything about Shushans panama hats? I've heard that their "Official" Indiana Jones fedoras are over-priced and all that, but what about they're other fedoras?
Also, what's a Snap Brim Fedora?

I don't think you can go wrong getting a hat from Bob, who is listed above, but don't think for one minute that it will be even a tiny big water resistant! Even the humidity in the air can make a genuine Panama start to loose it's shape. They're pretty easy to ruin, if you get them in any kind of a real rainstorm.

Of course that's just my humble opionion, but I own five of them and I finally broke down and got a felt hat to wear in inclement weather.

From what i can see they sell the usually junk hats over priced and not much quality.

If you want a really nice fur felt fedora Indy hat Steve here Aka. Fedora can build you one at a very fair price. The Indy straw needs the higher crown and wider brim. Peters Brothers And Panama Bob are the only 2 vendors i know of that can get you a nice Indy straw.

A snap brim is where the back turns up. It can be snapped up for a snazzy look or snapped down to match orientation of the front of the brim.

at least that's my understanding.

There's a Hats In The Belfrey store in the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. It's a fun shop, though most of the "high end" hats they offer will be your current Dobbs and Stetsons, etc. I'm sure they carry the same type of Dobbs straw hat I wear in the summer. It's a fine hat, though nowhere near the quality of a good Monticristi.

I agree with bink. There's also a Hats In the Belfry in Philadelphia on South Street near New Market and it's more of a novelty shop. They do have hats, but they are all mass produced and stacked up on each other. They also have novelty hats like Viking helmets, Bobbi Hats, and Roman Legion helmets.
They do not produce their own hats, nor do they service them, beyond hat pins and the occasional feather!
