Marc-

For the time being do we simply email you to place an order? Is the eventual plan to incorporate an option on the website to place order? Just curious because I don't have the cash now but in a couple of months I definitely will! (I hope  ) This is an expensive habit!

Great news for all you folks with Henry's on the way, please post many pics!

So to those of us that have looked forward to a "getting of a Henry by your door" as to the second coming, who else is going to be nerdy and squeal about how much you can't wait to put that lid on your head?

I've tried almost all the major labels now. I've never been more excited to get a hat. I'm pretty sure the next hat I order will be another AB.

So we've got another two or three weeks until we see the hat, right?

Wait, they're made in Europe, right?

I think they are made in Germany, but I'm not sure...

The factory is in Portugal as far as I remember.

We'll find out where the factory is when the box arrives: it will be shipped directly from the factory so we should be able to see which country it came from.

As to the being nerdy and squealing about how much I can't wait to put that lid on my head, pigs are envious of me right now
This is going to be my first Indy hat so I am pretty eager to finaly have it.

After this hat arrives I only need a gunbelt holster and whip to complete my first Indy outfit, but without the hat, it's not yet Indy.

Man I am so looking forward for this hat to finaly arrive.

I just hope it will be here this week, since my better half is away for a holiday and I could run around with the hat without risking a crisis. :)

It's my last piece of 'proper' Indy Gear that I need, and I can't wait for it to turn up so I can get my gear pics online as I've held off for its arrival.

Hi all,

sorry for the late reply (busy as always). The first hats left the factory today :D The rest will be leaving bit by bit.

These hats are quite a bit more time consuming to make then usual, due to the pickyness of Steve and me. We didn't want you guys to get a good hat that would make a good Indy Fedora. We wanted this to become the best possible, without making them ourselves. And I have a very good feeling regarding the hatter making them and he knows - and what's even more important UNDERSTANDS - our obsession about details and is willing to go the extra mile it takes to make an AB.

Regards,

Marc

It's great to know that this level of care (and obsession!) is going into these hats!
:)
It also ain't too shabby to hear that these hats are now on their way to their new owners!

Not yet, but I have no doubt that they will start showing up this week: the first ones were shipped last friday and I'm sure there will be one or two for some of the European members among those. Hopefully mine too [-o<

The first thing I'll do when I get it is bash it (maybe with a series of pictures taken along the process) then I'll look at it for a long time, then perfect the bash some, and when I feel confident enough about my first ever bash, I'll post pictures. ;-)

I think only the factory and probably Marc would know the answer to your questions though.

I had a lot of fun bashing my first hat, and I know you guys will, too. Here's hoping that you'll come to bash many more of your hats.

Agreed, bashing hats is quite fun. Especially high quality hats that don't require steam!

I'm not saying that I think it is extremely difficult, but that I have a tendency to be not easily satisfied with things I do. In other words: I am a perfectionist and my own worst critic ;-)

I was a bit aprehensive about the whole bashing thing at first, but after finding that exelent tutorial and practicing on some wool non Indy hats (which would pop back into their orriginal shape after 5 seconds :o ) I am actualy looking forward to this. I only know that I will not be easily pleased with my results :?

Make it your own. I mean make it an indy hat, but give it some of your own character and personality, I think you'll find then, that it becomes partial to you. Love the hat, and it will love you : )

Best,

Matt

I'd also say for any newcomer to any creative situation, begin only with the genral look of what you want, IE - Indy Raiders or KOTCS, do not focus on tiny tiny intricacies of say the SOC or Idol Grab look or the very specific dents in the side or swoshies because thats all hard stuff to do without knowing first how to generally get the look.

A proffesional Artist once told me that "When your beginning you should always start on huge canvases to learn your stroke and the flow of w/e you intend to draw, then once you can do big your mind will know from muscle memory how to go small and more intricate."

He also said...

In order for a person to draw something as simple as an orange, that persons mind must first freshly see the orange from the view of how to draw an orange. It's easy to bust out a peice a paper and draw an orange from memory, sure, but in order to really capture the orange, you need to freshen the memory with a model, picture, w/e.

Hope that helps, It helped me.

Very Best,

Matt

I was wondering about the same thing......

As the hats are made in Europe, I woul have guessed that European members who ordered one would have had one by now :-k

It makes me wonder where those hats are made and how they ship them.

Well it's Portugal, when you are down there and send a postcard home on the first day of your holyday the chance that it arrives at your place 2 weeks after you return is about 50/50 I guess. :)

Guess what? It just arrived... am I the 1st?
It's a very nice hat; very soft and "pliable"... but again this is my 1st hat, so I'm no expert. I need to attempt to bash it (first timer so gimme a break) and maybe I'll post some pics if it's worthy.

Thanks Marc!!

:o :o :o To say the least I am very surprised that someone in the US got the Henry before we Europeans got ours.

Now I feel realy bad about having to go away from home the next two days  I will be home in the evenings, but not when the delivery guy does his rounds. Hmmmm :-k , maybe I can get my parents to "babysit" the mailbox.

RobocopIndy, Congrats on being the first who got the Henry :) Be sure to post pics so those who didn't get theirs yet have something to look at ;-)

Can someone tell me if it's normal for it to be so soft that the bash comes right out? Do you have to bash it everytime you wear it? What can I do to stiffen it up, or is it supposed to be this way?

I've got no idea... But I do think your center dent is a bit too deep. It is causing the sides to taper.

I think that the hat will keep the bash if you keep "maintaining" it for a while. I redid a bash on one of my woolfelt stetsons once and I had to do maintainance on it several times before it kept it. that hat was very floppy and soft, so maybe it is the same with soft furfelt?

Regards, Geert

Posted: Mon Sep 29, 2008 7:23 pm
by ichnob
When it's its first bash, yes. Especially if the hat is as soft as you say it is. You can deepen the bash if you'd like. Plus, it popping back out means that if you dislike how it looks initially, you can easily fix it. It'll take a day or two for it to finally settle.

I've had my Fed IV for a few months now, and I still tweak the bash a bit. Mainly because I pop the bashes out for most of my friends who have never seen an open crown hat before.

edit--
And where are my manners. Good looking hat. And I agree with gwyddion: your center dent is too deep. Keep us updated with what you do to it.

Love it.
