Finally had a chance to take some pics of the nice Garrison Raiders hat I got back in June.
Once it arrived, I was impressed with soft, light but sturdy felt -- but decided I preferred the less-beat-up look of the Crystal Skull style. So I re-blocked the crown and retained David Garrison's well-done swoopy brim. It's perched on my US Wings lamb jacket, for color comparison.
The hat is light enough to wear on warm-ish days yet warm enough for chilly November morning dog-walks -- and at a great price!

Jeremiah wrote:Good to hear. You may find that keeping it on the stretcher at the set tension when not wearing of course, will ensure the sweat does not revert so quickly.
Now maybe some pics so we all believe you really have said hat
You were correct. It reverted back to the original size when I took it off and it sat for a couple of days. Will end up being in the stretcher on a permanent basis when not in use. Kind of a pain in the butt.

If you wet the inside of the sweat band before stretching, then allow it to dry ON the stretcher, it will eventually stay the size you stretch it out to.

Thanks, Glenville86. The Garrison felt was so soft and supple, I had to spray on a little stiffener in order to coax the hat into holding my modified bash. Then, once I steamed it and left it on the open-crown wooden block overnight to keep it from sneaking back the more-deeply pinched and slightly-turned Raiders shape, the hat cooperated.
Now it's my own customized hybrid of styles from the different movies.

Howard, I've already said it elsewhere but I may as well tell you again while I'm here; that hat IS awesome!!! I'm about to pull the trigger on one myself. What is the wait time like nowadays with David from time of placing the order to actually receiving your hat? I bought one from him last year and if I'm not mistaken I ordered in mid August and got it near the end of October. Regardless, kudos once a gin on your new lid!

The hat is at work and I did put some moisture on the band and left it for the long weekend. Will check it out today. First time around I did not really dampen the band very much.

Sorry to be the dark cloud here but, I wet the sweatband in my Garrison then left the hat stretcher in for almost a week and it did fit better when I first put it on but then it gradually shrunk again. I found this was a process that was necessary to do every day and I eventually tired of the ritual.

Myself and good friend we call the "Squatch" at our company Christmas party. My Garrison looks a bit misshaped after being knocked around next to me all night. No places ever have a good spot to put a hat!

Looking good.

Thanks Jeff! We decided to go for a sort of mafia look for fun. The other guy who was going to join us forgot to wear his or anything themed so the two of us had to do it! Under the duster I had on my Die Hard Christmas sweater shirt. It says "Now I have a machine gun...ho ho ho".

I have wanted one of Garrison's hats for some time now. Today, I pulled the trigger! Ordered a standard Raiders in the new reddish felt. Can't wait. By the way, I'm selling my Akubra Fed IV to make room. Check bazaar if interested...

anindyjones: Your pic look like the "whip swing over chasm" hat. The numbers I pulled from the pics of the film hat are: Front 4-1/4 to 4-1/2", Side 5", Rear 3-3/4". Those are for the standard "turned" hat. The opening scenes hat has different numbers.
Here are a couple of recent pics of my hat that I wear everyday while surveying the lands of Georgia. It is shaped with the "turn" using my number.
The new color is holding up well under constant sun exposure. I love this hat more and more every day.

Should be at my home by the end of the week. I'll post more pictures then!

Update, hat arrived yesterday. But it got beat up badly in shipping, including something weird with the sweatband. David is just as puzzled as I am. Hat is going back to him for repair. I'll post pictures after I get it back from him.

No doubt he will take care of you. He's a real stand up guy, and his hat will serve you well for a lifetime. I am committing myself to starting to wear fedoras again, then saving up for a beaver felt LC fedora. I have literally been annoying David since 2013 to make a LC hat. (Sorry LLS).
But the time has come!!!

So we ordered my girlfriend a Cairo from David. He said it was the first Cairo ever ordered by a female. She makes this hat look good, and it's a good looking hat anyway! I intend to get better pictures soon, but these are the ones she sent me while I was at work, and the first day she wore it.
