I have to agree with the others, it looks marvelous! John´s block combined with the Henry´s colour makes really a great looking hat!

So I just picked up a Henry from nicktheguy (how many times are the two of us going to buy from each other?!?!?) and I was surprised by the quality of this hat! At first it didn't even seem like it was a factory made hat... not until I really started looking at it. I can now see why Marc thought this hat was good enough to carry the Adventurebilt name! The felt is sooo soft, and the sweatband is top notch! I have only felt this kind of sweatband on vintage hats. It's perfect!

When I got the hat from Nick, it needed a good brushing. Nick said that it has pretty much been collecting dust and it looked like it. After cleaning it up I popped out the bash and hit it with some steam (I know some people say not to steam hats, but it has worked out really well for me!). I managed to get the old bash out, and put in a nice Raiders bash. I am hoping to turn this into more of a Streets of Cairo style hat. I need to work the bash a little more but this is how it looks:

I know just what you mean. However nicktheguy and I share more than just head size, but feet size as well. I bought a pair of Aldens from him awhile back. Best boots I have ever owned!

Now I hear that Nick has a grey AB.... I hope he sells it!

Thanks jnicktem :TOH: its a CS bash, got it from AB deluxe, as I live in Switzerland at the moment it was easier, excellent customer service by the way. They did the bash for me but i tweaked it a bit when it came cause I thought the front pinch was not tight enough, I actually get that feeling with all the CS style hats I see around, maybe I'm wrong bt when I look at the movie i think the top pinch is quite tight and it goes down for a little way before spreading to the sides. But yeah, am quite happy with it.
The little white bow is a request i did and they were kind enough to replace the brown one, i just find it makes the inside look so nice :D
In all, love that hat :TOH:

Well it looks like I am about to be the proud new owner of this here fedora...Is it ok that I don't have "nick" somewhere in my name?!? Is that allowed? :P

I am thrilled to finally start putting together some quality Indy gear, and The Henry will help me get the ball rolling.

I just reread this entire thread and want to thank everyone for posting all their experiences and insight.

Why? I just came into possession of a Henry, very gently used, like barely at all, for a very good price.

The only fur felt new hats I own are Akubras, and I have been very happy with them. So I couldn’t imagine how much better this new hat could possibly be.

When I took it out of the box, I noticed right away a number of things.

The look of the felt. It has a richness of color and texture like I’ve never seen, similar to some of my vintage hats.

The feel of it is also quite different than my Akubras and again similar to a vintage hat. Very rich and smooth.

Right away I noticed how stiff the hat feels. I thought, ‘how could everyone say that it’s so soft?’ It’s not soft, but then I remembered how stiff-as-a-board my Akubras were. And in time, with constant wear, they have softened up nicely, as others here have pointed out.

I studied the bash. Definitely Raiders. I put it on my head. Feels weird. Uh-oh, this hat is turned. I took it off and inspected it from all angles. Definitely turned.

I buy what I wear for comfort, including hats. Turned hats feel weird, like they’re, well, turned.

Not only that, but it’s too big. It’s a 59. I’m a 59. I cut a paper towel in half, folded up each piece twice over, and laid them under the sweat on each side. Better.

The bash looks like it was probably put in professionally, but I really don’t know (I didn’t ask). Maybe John or Marc will recognize their handiwork. Maybe.

So I went into the bathroom with the hat and the spray bottle and went to work. Long story short, I didn’t care for the results of my straight-on rebash so I put it back the way it was, with a few tweaks, and let it dry overnight.

I did find that flipping the back of the brim down makes the hat look better, to me of course. Also, after messing with the hat a few times now, the front of the brim is now dipping low and even instead of looking low like someone had been forcing it into shape. I guess wetting it down and letting it dry completely overnight did the trick. Or maybe it’s that in combination with padding the sweat so my head has some impact on the shape forced the brim to things it’s supposed to do. When I got it, it was too big to wear.

I was at the mall today with my wife and I got two compliments on the Henry. I’ve gotten an occasional compliment when wearing my Akubras, but never two within such a short time. Probably a coincidence. But maybe not.

The color in the picture is pretty accurate.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this hat. It needs a lot of break-in, though. I'll be wearing it pretty much every day. The Akubras will be getting an extended break.

I'm assuming the owner added stiffener because I know both Henry Ab's and akubra. no way would anyone say they are the same in weight or stiffeness.

Weight, no. The Henry is very light in my hands and on my head. The felt doesn't appear to have had anything applied to it. It looks and moves well, but like a new hat. How would I know, short of asking?

Well if it is stiff as a akubra, stiffener was added. You can't tell by looking at it.

Okay, so perhaps it has had some stiffener added. I scrushed it up a bit a about a week ago and now it looks and feels more like a lived in Raiders hat so I'm even more happy with it.

When did the price of the Henry go up?
Last I saw, they were $280 I think - now they are listed at $325 (and still worth every penny btw) just curious if manufacturing costs had gone up.
I'd still like to get a moonstone fedora sometime...

The above hat has come to land in my lap! Got it yesterday, ran it through a quick Gary White refresh, and am wearing it as I write. I have many fedoras, but this is my FIRST Indy hat and I got to admit, it is quite lovely! Great felt, easy to bash, comfortable on my big ol' noggin. Hey, you guys may be on to something here! Will post pics shortly.

My Henry just arrived this morning and I've been wearing it all day (working from home today). John had done a great job on the LC crease, and I worked at it a little myself too, just to loosen the crown up a tad. It seems rather stiff, but the overall felt touch is nice and soft. Also, I was surprised that there's so little flange to the brim, which I suppose makes sense if it was designed as a raider's style hat, since most of the brim shape on that one was due to the turn of that hat. I'm trying to give it a little more "swoop" akin to the LC look. The sweat is the most comfortable I've got; and I have a few nice felts hat now.

At any rate, here it is on my head:

Image

I think the pic makes it look quite at home on my head. I'm going to enjoy wearing it, and any and all distressing it will see will be 100% natural as this will be my everyday/everywhere hat.

wow, that makes me regret having sold one of my Henrys.

The henrys are truely wonderful hats, the felt is remarkable and the sweat band is almost too smooth.

congrats on this one. Looks real good on you !
