Arf! I thought as much, so I deliberately checked this thread LAST in case I had to stay off COW for 24 hours...okay, 1 day of abstinence starting right after this post. See you guys Friday (Pacific Daylight Time).

Rick, that is a beautiful jacket - well weathered. (Was that naturally distressed by time, wear, and love, or did I just get in even deeper w/ Michaelson?)

Re: the Double-Demon-Roll (TM) - I would have rolled the other side to match as well!

As I mournfully trudge out and let the computer cool, I still can't help thinking it DOES look like a drape problem caused when the collar softens and it rolls out towards the points...cie le vie...

Thank you. Let us just say it was artificially distressed by time, acetone and love  . Actually, I started it out with acetone and over the last year it has developed natural distressing and character as well. I like to think of it as the best of both worlds. Whenever I get new gear, I try to make it look like it belongs with the old gear to some degree. Wearing a jacket frequently dictates some degree of natural distressing will occur.

And don't worry about Michaelson. I wrote this response early enough where we should be able to slip it by before he has his first cup of coffee.

This is why I let you get up first at the QM gathering. Well that and the fact that I am not, in any way, shape or form, a morning person.

Me either...it's just that at the QM, I'm two time zones ahead of you, so 5 a.m. your time was actually 7 a.m. for me (dang dive boat!!) Plus you just wanted me to find out if the coffee shop was open...  Regards. Michaelson

Has anyone had an inverse 'demon roll' develop on their jacket? I have a cowhide that I've owned for about 4 years and it's developed what I can best decribe as an inverted demon roll. the zipper is hangs straight, but part of the jacket has doubled over the top of it.

by Michaelson
Is it rolling out, or in? When you say 'inverse' to the 'demon roll', I'm assuming it's rolling inward, right? If not, THAT'S the demon roll in it's full glory. :-s Regards. Michaelson

With your jacket on, look down the front of your jacket, think of a letter "Z" with the bottom line, the zipper, laying/hanging flat like it should and the top line is the sag in the jacket that's doubled over the top of the zipper. Maybe an inverted demon roll wasn't the best way to describe this. :-k

Sounds like the roll problem we've been discussing to me. Which jacket are you talking about, Jess? Regards. Michaelson

Thanks Michaelson. It's that old disney jacket. That US Wings is going like gangbusters - it's got the perfect drape!

The demon ruffle? Sounds like that jacket is just yearning to be worn w/ a tux...

Jess, do you mean it's sort of starting to 'accordion fold' a bit on that side?

Yeah Jerry, that would be it.

Tried flattening it under something heavy after getting it wet?

Rick apparently had some success w/ letting it dry back into shape, but it sounds like yours would need something holding it flat while it dried.

i have a couple of wested lambskins that are 5 years and 1.5 years old respectivly and havent noticed the rolling outward of the collar. the jacket does tend to blow open easily though. i do get this on some of my dressshirts. i have to iron the collars so that they stay up and don't fan out.

1936 - Have you noticed any rollout in the front panels, like it is rolling outward from the zippers to the sides? That's something the folks have seen - read the rest of this thread - they call it Demon Roll.

You know, looking again at my Wested gaot, I've got a nice looking jacket! No signs of any demon rolling in any direction, so I've got a good one. (I like the sound of that. "What are you guys doing tonight?" "We're goin' demon rolling.")

My distressed cow also has the Demon Ruffle. It is a difficult phenomenon to describe accurately, but it's almost like a large pleat, in some respects. Not bothersome in any way, and does not detract from the appearance of the jacket, but I know of what he speaks. It only does this when unzipped, tho.

I'm not too crazy about it, either... (okay, now just read that with a bad 'Groucho' impersenation, and you'll have it)
