Thank you very much Croft! Again, it was your photos in your thread that made me jump the truck to contact Diego and get my jacket so huge thanks to you as well.

Trenin, Croft is right, they are one and the same and it’s how you want to state your jacket or more specifically which particular scene you want your jacket to resemble:
Main Hero- hovitos temple, flying wing fight, Raven Bar, Well of Souls
Hawaii Jacket - before entering the Hovitos Temple
Truck Jacket - The truck chase scene

Diego told me that they’re all the same and share the same pattern. Only differences are certain features like the texture. The Hero was known to have the famous ribby striation marks on the chest panel (seen right before the flying wing fight) with a smoother back panel, while the Truck jacket has a smoother chest panel with a much more textured back panel. There’s also another “variation” which fans call the hawaii jacket which is known to have more pronounced scalloped pockets and a pointy collar. So it’s small features like these that distinguish the jackets apart but all in all, they share the same pattern (except the Bantu Wind variation). The term Cazadora 36 just refers to the “Raiders Jacket” collection.

Here's an in depth breakdown from Diego regarding the Raiders Jackets from this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70765&p=923644&hili ... is#p923644

Will put it down here since it's also related to this thread:

Diego states:
All along 2019 we located and we’ve been collecting info about 3 surviving screen-used Raiders jackets

Here is the information we got on the Raiders jackets.

This is a summary of the jackets we know that still exists.
Not assumptions. At least this 3 jackets exists.

ORIGINAL RAIDERS JACKETS

ORIGINAL LEATHER:
Lambskin.
Color: Chocolate color. (just to give it a name)
Undertone: light brown, slightly reddish (very subtle)
Thickness: 0.8/1.0 mm (not as thin as previously thought)
Texture: some ribbiness here and there. Very light grain spots. Mostly smooth.

SUMMARY

(the name we assign to each one is our own idea, just for identification purposes. Not mentioned by our sources.)

1) BANTU WIND jacket
In the movie, on Harrison Ford's back on location in La Rochelle docks.
Later used as stunt jacket by Terry Leonard (under the truck)
We have no confirmation if it can be seen in another scene.

In possession of LUCASFILM archives

2) JOCK PLANE jacket
In the movie, on Harrison Ford's back on location in Hawaii, in the jump into the river take.
We have no confirmation if it can be seen in another scene.

In possession of LUCASFILM archives

3) TRUCK jacket
In the movie, on Harrison Ford's back in some of the truck chase scenes, from getting shot on left sleeve, to taking control on cabin's truck and escaping.
(NOT on stunts takes)
We have no confirmation if it can be seen in another scene.

In possession of a private collector

FEATURES / DESCRIPTION
SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES

1) BANTU WIND jacket
Many similarities with ToD patterns. Same construction details.
Pockets: Smaller dimensions for the front pockets. (we didn't got the exact measurements)
Yoke: Larger yoke. About 7".
Pleats: Action pleats closed at bottom, with small opening.
Zipper: YKK silver zipper (size not confirmed)
Buckles: no buckles
Lining: 100% brown polyester
Condition: heavily distressed on back and front. Also important distress present on sleeves. Hole (ripped) on upper left sleeve.
No label

2) JOCK PLANE jacket
Pockets: Raiders sized pockets. Approximately 20 cm height x 16.5 cm wide. (due to the condition of the jacket, is very difficult to measure exactly)
Yoke: Small Raiders yoke. About 4.75".
Pleats: Full action pleats, at bottom are open up to strap level.
Zipper: YKK silver zipper, n°5 size.
Buckles: black rectangular 2-prongs buckles. BRITISH inscription.
Lining: 100% brown polyester
Condition: very distorted, completely deformed throughout its whole structure. Shrunken effect on leather by water saturation also increased the grain making it more prominent. Jacket is lighter in color (discolored), with stains all over the surface.
No label

3) TRUCK jacket
Pockets: Raiders sized pockets. Approximately 20 cm height x 16.5 cm wide.
Yoke: Small Raiders yoke. About 4.75".
Pleats: Full action pleats, at bottom are open up to strap level.
Zipper: YKK silver zipper, n°5 size.
Buckles: black rectangular 2-prongs buckles. BRITISH inscription.
Lining: 100% brown polyester
Condition: very well preserved. Relatively heavy distressed in front and abdomen area, also on the back of the sleeves (elbow and forearm). Hole (ripped) on upper left sleeve.
No label
and
RAIDERS JACKETS:

This is a deeper analysis we did on some of the jackets we could positive identify:

* TRUCK jacket (mainly seen in Truck chase, from shoot in the arm to "parking" at Omar's)
* HOVITO temple entrance
* MAIN HERO (inside Hovito temple, Raven bar, Well of Souls, Flying wing fight...)
* IMAM's house

All this jackets, we can see in the movie, share the same pattern and leather.
Were cut to be exactly identical to each other.

The leather for every of this jackets is the same.
Lambskin.
Some lamb and sheep breeds have the particular "ribs" marks on the skin surface.
However, this marks were very subtle, among the whole batch.

Now, we are talking about the same leather batch.
Same animal type. Same color. Same thickness. Same tannery process.
BUT, some skins have a more pronounced "ribby" texture than others.
Because no animal is exactly identical to the other (no clone sheeps here...LOL)

For some of the jacket's parts, the skins used had a bit more of "ribbyness" present. There lies the differences we see.
When Peter was making the jackets for RAIDERS, most probably the skins for each one were radomly choosen, among the whole batch.
Also, the construction differences comes from one machinist to another, putting together and assembling the jackets with different techniques.

We've learned this by making the jackets.

Cheers.-

It's quite long since I noticed there aren't much videos online showcasing the Steele & Jones jackets in depth. Wanted it to be a guide as well for those who are thinking of buying a raiders jacket, or for those who are interested in a Cazadora jacket but want to know more about it.

I have to thank everyone here in the forum as well, all the details you share made it possible to craft this video.
I hope this helps those who want to know more about the Cazadora 36! :TOH:
Although this is only my second post on the forum (I just joined), this thread is making me feel really excited for my jacket. I think your amazing review pretty much sold me on the Steele & Jones Cazedora 36. I actually just ordered my Explorador 36' from Roberto the other week and I am excited for that to come in.

Glad that it was able to help you decide to pull the trigger on the jacket. Holding it up close and wearing it will make you feel better and confident. I haven't ordered a fedora (yet) but I've only heard awesome things about it. Oh and also, welcome aboard :TOH: This entire forum is a gold mine of information.

I'm very excited to look over as many threads as I can. I started to really obsess over Indy ever since Indy 5 was announced, especially during this month as I started to do heavy research into each costuming piece. I'm expecting to get real deep into the fandom and cosplay much like my die hard obsession with everything star wars.

I was primarily looking at this information on the RPF (my nickname is HackinSpock), but I was recommended over to COW if I really wanted more up-to-date, exclusive discussions on Indy and costuming.

Thickness, although there are certainly thin cuts of cowhide. Texture of the leather. The two leathers tend to distress differently. It depends on where the hide/skin is sourced, if it is tanned with a more natural process, ie veg. or chromium. Color and type of leather dye, etc. Cowhide can be sueded in distressing. Cowhide is a more durable leather, takes a bit longer to break in; whereas lamb tends to be a more fragle, fashion leather and distresses easily.

I'm taking the leap of faith today. I just sent an email out to S&J to start the ordering process for a 36' jacket. I'm doing it now so both it and my fedora can ship at the same time. I'm so stoked to start the process.

Just made my first partial payment for the jacket. I went for the 36' HERO jacket with the new chocolate ribby lambskin from France. Sure it cost me a bit extra, but I am sure it will be worth it. Best part is, this is now a combo purchase with my 36' fedora, so I'll receive them both at the same time and save shipping cost and such.

This is my S&J Cazedora 35 ToD, I've posted it in the past in one thread or another. But it seems not this one.
Anyway, I've been teaking the look of over the last year.
Using Pecard dark cream, distressing it (sorry Michaelson) not liking it, so dark cream again.
Then it went to the seamstress to fix the back panel pleat issue.
While I liked the way it looked, I distressed more and tried the leather dye treatment, not
heavy, but it did bring about the desired look.
I just wish I could get the sleeves to wrinkle like you see it at the end of the movie, I've tried
soaking them, put it on a mannequin and pushed the sleeves up, leave for a day or two, wrinkles
yes but still not as heavy, heck I even tried wetting and force drying with a hair drier, nope.
It must be the type of lamb, it's the lightest I have, my truck chase feels a tad heavier.

I digress, went out today in 86deg heat with humidly. Actually fertilized the back yard while
wearing gear to get sweaty.
Went to a construction site which had all kinds of rocks and sand. And heat.
I have to be nuts to go out in this heat, but the Misses had to work and
she did say to relax. So id did what relaxes me.
Deigo makes a top notch jacket and I really love wearing his product.
Thank you.

Fedora: Advintage ToD bridge scene with a slight turn (my request)
Shirt: Azuma ToD 2nd run
Pants: Wested
Shoes: Aden 405
Whip: 10’ raiders
Sorry for the non-regulation beard, old man Indy am I. Hmmm Yes.

We all should stand up and thank you.

So thanks to all who do, when I first saw raiders, man next day I wore a wool Fedora and I was transformed.
Then a A-2 leather jacket, bam, transformed again.
Shirts from banana Republic and I was Indy. Hahahaa. Man those were the days.
Now look at us and what’s available.

But your jackets are the jacket to own, and the service is outstanding

Well, I know this doesn't specifically fit the thread, but it does in spirit. Here's my new Cazadora 57' by Diego. He was an absolute dream to work with and answered all of my questions promptly. In my eyes, this is the best possible jacket I could have ever hoped for. I have seriously had a smile stuck on my face ever since I put it on. It's perfect, and I doubt anyone except the late, great Tony Nowak could even begin to compete with Diego. :TOH:

I concur, that is one beaut of a jacket.
I have the same smile on my face too, when ever I put on my Truck Chase or ToD.

Diego’s work is spot on, what surprises me is this is just a part time job for him.

I’m just trying to find the right style Fedora to wear with my TC.

Wear that in good health, your going to find your self driving or standing there and you’ll glance down at your arm and you’ll just say to your dang that looks awesome.

As on our updated site:
"We are Roberto and Diego, friends and fans of Dr. Jones, who in 2008 started this as a hobby, just for fun and now, after some years, we’ve perfected our craft and it has become a new endeavor."

Not a part-time job anymore, we're investing more than that now. ;)

And you are always welcome, my words are from the heart (awwwww) you make a beautiful jacket.
Now if you can only start working with beaver felt. [-o<

Croft
My friend, thank you so much for your kindness.

On the felt, unfortunately, our local felt supplier doesn't produce beaver felt (we've asked...several times)
They say, can't get the raw material to work with (beaver fur)

Ironic fact, in Argentina (on "Tierra del Fuego" state -southest of the world-) there's a beaver invasion.
This invasive species were introduced almost 70 years ago, from Canada.
With no natural predators in the area, high scale reproduction was no issue.
They destroy the habitat and the places where other plants and animals naturally live.

Can't find a solution....politicians and bureaucratics...

Cheers.-

Looks good. Nice color. Totally agree with satin/acetone/nylon lining as it allows better movement and drape. It allows the jacket to flow with you without restricting.

Mike wrote: Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:58 am Well, I wanted to give it a few days (and was away for some) to let it sink in and not let my initial feelings sway any review, but 2 days before my birthday, I got what is now my favorite Indy jacket!

Having sold a comic that is worth a ridiculous amount of money now, I was able to do a little shopping and decided that since my Nowak Raiders jacket's arms have always been a bit thin, I'd go with a S&J jacket after reading through all the glowing reviews here. I will say Diego held up to those reviews.

Originally thinking about the latest Truck Chase offering, midway through my order, Diego informed me that they has sourced a new French leather that would work great for the Main Hero jacket. Cost would be a bit more since fees for the leather were higher, but as I had enough comic funds, I decided to do the upgrade. SO glad I did!!

I ordered the CAZADORA '36 -RAIDERS, Leather: "NEW Chocolate Ribby Lambskin", MAIN HERO jacket. I also went with the polyester lining as I like how my Nowak slides off my shoulders the way Indy's does.

First impressions, this jacket is LIGHT! I'm sure its the lightest leather jacket I've owned. Almost to the point where I had a passing worry about durability but I'm not overly hard on my jackets. LOVE the leather sourced it has the chocolate color with light brown/slightly red undertones that look perfect. The ribby texture is there, but not overly exaggerated in all the right places. I asked for slight distressing (sorry Michaelson) as I didn't want to go too far with it and wanted to allow natural distressing to occur. I think it turned out perfect. The only part I may question is sleeve length. They may be a hair long, but I think once they crunch up a bit, they'll be fine.

Only had time for a quick pic before leaving for this past weekend's hockey tournament.

Hello, COW! - Seeking some advice on fit.

I had been spec'ing out a S&J when I saw this (mostly) new '36 bouncing around eBay. (Here as well, I think.). I thought the shoulders, sleeves, and back might be too long, and the chest too snug (a 40, and I'm ~41) but I wanted to get my hands on the thin horsehide so I rolled the dice. I figured, worse case, I can pass it on, and in the process decide on the horse.

But I think I can make this work. The sleeves are indeed comically long on me, but I have them folded in for these pictures and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Chest, I think is good. Are the shoulders and back pushing it, though? This is more for daily wear than cosplay. Pants are mid-rise jeans.

Apologies for the background; we're finishing the attic, so all that junk is in my office.

aside from the sleeve length I'd say you got a winner. It fits you snug thru the body as it should IMHO

I don’t see the sleeve length as comical at all, just wait till wrinkle up after wearing/getting wet. Just push them up your sleeves and walk around, let ‘em dart, and they’ll be perfect.

And that does look like a good fit for you.

Nice find, almost black or is it.

Yeah, the fit looks great! And the sleeve length is optimal, no worries. Nice jacket! :TOH:

It looks a very good fit, over long sleeve length notwithstanding.

Thank you all for all the feedback! I've never worn an Indy jacket and I was obsessing over tiny details, like how far before the belt the back rests. Etc.

The sleeves are probably 2" longer than they appear, they're just tucked into the cuff. Totally manageable as is or I can get them fixed later.

The lighting makes it look darker; here it is against a truly black jacket I've had since 92 or so.

PXL_20230728_131103955_adobe_express.jpeg

As for the jacket itself, the horsehide is exactly what I wanted. Not as drapey as my (lamb?) blazer but much lighter than the brutally heavy cow jacket in this picture. Very nice.

It also has light weathering. I never would've ordered a new jacket for myself with any weathering, but this one has it (very light) and I am really impressed by the art of it. Very naturally and authentically done. From this point on, it'll have my own natural battle scars.

After I bought it, I pummeled s&j with questions, and they were extremely accommodating. Great service, considering I didn't buy it new.

The only finish issue is a scrunch in the leather near the zipper, probably from the facing (this jacket has facing); it's minor and adds character.

Very happy that this jacket bounced around long enough to land on me.

I don’t know much about the jacket, but I do have a cazadora 36 in thin horse and I think it’s great. Not too heavy but with a nice look to my eye. Hope you enjoy yours.
