Thanks, that does help. I'll ponder the purchase for a tad and maybe pick one up next month... that way, maybe we'll see more pics before I do.

G'day chaps.
I have not stopped in for a hundred years.
In regards to the WPG jacket it is based on a G and B in a 42 Long that i sent Wajed 2 years back. The jacket was meant to have gone through a bit of fine tuning and counter sampling prior to release.
I am not 100% sure that this ended up happening.

Sam

haha! I thought so! There were too many similarities.
100 years is a long time. Living upside down all the time will do that.

I have lurked from time to time, here and there.
I just really haven't had much to contribute of late.
I have all my time chewed up by running my own coffee shop and being a father.
Indygear and Indy Gear have been put on the back burner but last halloween forced me out of retirement and the daughter and did the rounds as Indy and ballet skeleton.
Malek of WPG asked me what to do next and i gave him list and on the list was his version of an Indy jacket. Just so you know i didn't get a free sample either.
Talk soon
Sam

Thanks for the WPG jacket info and pics, Texan Scott! I'm new to the forum but came across the WPG since I was looking for something budget-priced. So I'm reading that the WPG is thinner goat, while the most recent Todd's jacket is thicker lamb. Do you have an opinion on which would be more durable? And do you favor one over the other? I'm reading all about how fragile lamb is and I don't want to have a jacket tear if I get it snagged hiking through the woods, for example.
P.S. I've contacted WPG and they said one can request a jacket that has the 1 inch wide adjustment straps, but that they are still on the first run of the jacket. So aside from the strap variation in thickness, I think everything else should still be the same.

The goatskin from WPG was thin and amazingly pliable. It was supple, like lamb on much of the surface. There were a few spots in the leather that was a bit on the stiff side, but I was really surprised at how quickly it was breaking in and molding, just by trying it on for a brief amount of time. The collar was the one part of it that took some work. Color was a warm brown, not as black-ish as the G&B finish. If you can get past a few minor details, it is not a bad choice at all. The skin was definitely its stronger suit, yoke was thinnish, and the cut of the jacket was more to the slender side. All in all, especially for the money, $175, it is a quality dawg.

Thanks so much! I'm 5'7" and about 140 lbs (38 Short jacket size) so a more slender cut tends to fit my frame best.
Very tempting, the WPG jacket. Oh, and I also asked about the lining and was told via email by Wajed Malik that it's "dark green silk."
Interestingly, according to this article early A-2 jackets were lined in silk but changed to cotton when silk began to be reserved for parachutes:
http://www.retrospectmag.com/articles/2 ... acket.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. WPG's A-2 jacket has cotton lining (and gets good reviews on their site).
I'm a little confused about the pockets, even with the descriptions already stated.
Is it like the outer pockets are stitched on and the handwarmers are between it and the body of the jacket, so that when one puts his hands in the side handwarmer pockets one feels leather on both sides? Or are the handwarmer pockets cut into the jacket and between the jacket body and inner lining? I hope that makes sense.
Are the layers like this from outside in?
pocket leather->map pocket space->pocket leather->handwarmer pocket space->jacket body leather->jacket lining

as far as I know, I was one of the first to receive a WPG, so this was obviously one of the first generation. Hopefully a few tweaks have been incorporated for future jackets? Like the G&B, the pocket is sewn directly onto the leather panels on the front of the jacket. Unlike Wested and a few others, BK, etc., the hand warmers do not go into the interior lining of the jacket. Construction wise, this is a more simplified application. Either way, this does not matter to me, though it may matter to some. In my mind, this was no point against them, because in my opinion, the Raiders jacket should be evaluated on its outside appearance, the specs, as they conform to the movie jacket, then quality (or not)construction. Though the original may have been a semi-flimsy prop to last maybe for duration of the film or a few scenes, these are made for real world consumers, and who wants one that would fall apart on him, for the money. I did not see this issue with the WPG. The only other shortfall that I noted in the review, was that the map pockets were double walled with leather, making them stiff and thicker than usual. Goatskin does not need to be reinforced.

Thanks again. Seems that for durability, having the handwarmer pockets between the jacket leather and map pocket leather might be a better choice. I guess it adds that extra layer of leather to the front pocket area, but you don't notice any bulk or anything in any of the pics I've seen. Some screen accuracy details aside, I haven't found a jacket priced so low that looks so good and is also so durable (a real world jacket).

For what it's worth, I have a Wested c2000 with the hand warmer pockets through the jacket body and into the liner and a G&B with the hand warmer pockets behind the flap pockets "outside" the jacket body.
I prefer the G&B set up. The pocket feels a little strange because essentially it is leather lined, but doesn't compromise the jacket body. The Wested pockets effectively create a 'hole' through the jacket body.

Indiana Jeff

I've been 'eyeballing' them too. Overall, not too many pics out there. I wouldn't mind giving them a try for both the price & just 'having an Indy jacket.' Yeah, any updates would be great since I'm not a big screen accurate guru as I used to be anyhow...

I would like to see good pics of a new one, and if Jerry made any mods, and how it differs from the 1st gen. that I received? If someone has a new one that has been purchased within a month or so, post some pics, would you?
