solbergg wrote:Just wanted to give an update on this now that I have had the Fed IV for a week. When I first put it on it still looked a little large on me, but after a week of getting used to it I think it's exactly the right size. I still wouldn't wear it with a collar-less shirt, but it looks fantastic with a collared shirt or jacket.
I had to put a little padding in mine to begin with but after a year, I had to take it out... fits like a glove now. Good for You!!!!!

Wanted to add some photos of the Fed IV. I didn't have it quite centered in these images, but I think it looks great.

My jacket isn't an 'Indy' jacket, but its an old jacket of mine that's close enough for now. I just got the Filson shirt in the mail today. I think its a great color and fits the look.

This looks good! Cool jacket too! To me, the bash could be a bit further back into the crown, but that is just how I am seeing it with the photos you have provided, but overall, hat looks great and you look super with it. IE: The hat is truly not wearing you, you are wearing the hat \:D/ ! Very nice! W>

Yep, the Fed looks very natural on you. And I love the jacket!

That's a huge improvement over what you started with. Suits your face perfectly. Wear it like that for a few months and I think you'll be very satisfied with the results.

Just a quick question? Are you looking for other hats besides an Indy-like fedora? If so, there are a number of wide brimmed hats for work or sports and leisure activity at most sports stores. Besides these, panama-ish straw or the HH (Henschel hats, breezer) makes a great work hat as well. Most of the time, with these cheaper alternatives, they are not blocked with a straight block shape, or are not blocked at all, and are significantly tapered. But this is not something that most customers are really that concerned about these days. Once you step foot in the forum, well...that's a different story. ;)

Thanks for all the compliments, guys. My old jacket was at the tailor since June because the zipper needed to be replaced. Finally seeing the hat with the jacket and an Indy-ish shirt really made it all come together. I appreciate you all pointing me in the right direction!

Texan Scott, I am looking to get another fedora of some kind. I ended up returning the Akubra Sydney because the color really didn't work with much of my clothes. I need a dark gray hat that I can wear with my gray suit. Garrison Hatter's Bogart style looks pretty interesting.

I have two Garrison Bogies (moss green and black) and love them both.

Nothing wrong at all with the shirt and jacket; the whole ensemble looks great and very INDY!!! :whip: If you bypass the rabbit hole of screen accuracy, you may end up just as happy...maybe even happier!!! ;)

Boy, is this not true. I remember, as a child -- close enough was great, because in my mind -- I was 'who I was!' Then, as the years proceeded -- it wasn't enough! NO! Never enough! I can and will do better! And, now, I am slowly (Thank the Good Lord), settling in to the former. Good advise here. Not bad for the checkbook, either :rolling: ! W>

I have a Fed III (avatar) that's been through the wringer, and back again. It's been blocked, re-blocked, rained on, smooshed (both on my head and off), snowed on, reverse-blocked (due to thinness of the felt at the front/now back), unturned, turned, and turned some more (thanks again, John, for the conversation).

I cannot, because I have no desire to, handle a hat so its shape never changes. This hat, as well as my other brown Indy fedoras, look like Raiders fedoras, but not down to any particular scene because they'd never stay that way through daily use.

I'll go back to my old phrase, 'screen-reminiscent.' They look like Raiders hats, but are not screen-accurate to any one scene. But they work on me because of how I wear and handle them, and that's what's important.
