Rixter;
My current winter jacket has that configuration with hidden cuffs inside the sleeve. It both looks good at it is easier to keep the cold out when wearing gloves if you keep them tucked in there. I actually had an idea about how this would do on an Indy jacket but figured that probably would be a bit of blasphemy. :D Now I know it can be done on other jackets though.

Actually, I LIKE that idea of hidden cuffs inside the barrel sleeve. I had a jacket a LONG time ago configured like that, and I really liked it. I can think of several times when I stuck my arm out my Plymouth window to give a hand signal (no turn signals on the old girl!) and have that nice freezing winter wind roaring up my sleeve, and not stopping until it hit my beltline. Those hidden cuffs would have stopped it very nicely, but not mess up the barrel sleeve appearance of the jacket! Hummmm. Neat idea for my heavier Wested...I wonder... :-k High regards. Michaelson

Betcha Peter would charge a paltry 5₤ to add them to and order…

Ordered Jacket

I'm a teenager, and since I'm growing its kinda uneconomical for me to get the leather version. Anyway, I just ordered a 36R version of the jacket. (I'm 14 and 5'6) Can't wait! It has cotton body with satin sleeves and has the slider. I opted for the cotton collar, the cord collar looks to warm for a summer jacket.

Good for you. To tell you the truth, the cordoury collar kind of grows on you (methophorically speaking, of course   ), and I've not found it any warmer than a cotton collar, because it IS cotton as well. But, that said, I think you'll like it's appearance much better as it will have the look of a standard Wested your way. I wore mine to day, and like it better and better. I'm probably going to order another size 42R in the near future, but with 25 inch sleeves this time, as well as a zip on the inside pocket. I installed velcro on my existing jackets inside pocket to keep it closed. I know my eldest daughter has cast a 'longing eye' on the one I'm currently wearing, especially after she saw my wife's cotton Wested I got for her last Christmas. Getting another one with the right sleeve lengh may help kill two birds with one stone. 8) Regards. Michaelson

This is the only reason I get to post in this group…

Cuz I don't have a leather (nor do I want one...at this point). I wear mine every day, it’s just starting to get warm in WA state. Sadly, there will come a time when I won’t want to wear it, but this’ll only last about two months. It’s big enough that I can wear heavier shirts under it in the winter time, WA weather is very conducive to this coat. Here’s our summer forecast: rain with chance of showers. Hummmm. Sounds like you'll be a BIG Scotchgard fan in such fine weather, especially wearing THAT jacket. :D Regards. Michaelson

Ooh yeah! Until it dries it’s very flammable! Rain doesn’t bother the “natives” up here. I might’ve said in another post that it’s easy to spot the tourists, they’re the ones that use umbrellas.

I thought you only used them to 'shoo' sea gulls off of beaches. Hummm :? Regards. Michaelson

Does the cotton raiders have ride up effect on the front? And when you say add an inch to the sleeve, where does the sleeve end up?

Mr. Michaelson,
You own both the cotton and leather, would you say that sizing for both is the same or different?

Sizing is the same on both my cotton and leather. Peter uses the same patterns. I don't notice the front ride up, as it being cotton, it doens't 'flow' in the same way as leather does, so in my opinion that's not something that has to be 'considered' when ordering. Then again, that's just me.... Regards. Michaelson

Two unrelated parties have told me that my cotton indy jacket looked like a UPS coat. They are now feeding my roses...

My cotton raiders arrived today. I'll try to get pictures up by next week. It's "#### Week" for the school play. That means 5-11 rehearsals...hence the name! So...I'll try to find time to get some pictures up before then, but chances are very slim.

Understood on the pics. but what do you THINK of the jacket? :?: Regards. Michaelson

All this talk about the front of the leather jacket riding up...

What I've found is that the BACK of the jacket gets shorter, not the front. The back of my lambskin Raiders is now about two inches higher than the front. They started out even. Maybe it's because I carry things in the pockets, and that the back tends to pull horizontally from everyday movement.

Same goes for my Expedition.

Hmmm...curious. :-k

You REALLY need to start carrying your pocket pistol in a holster or back pocket. You carrying it in a front pocket of your jackets will NATURALLY make it pull the front down, ESPECIALLY with the cotton jacket being discussed here. :? Regards. Michaelson

Well, after wearing this jacket for a few days now, I have to say its very, very comfortable. The cotton is very soft. It seems to be very durable a the moment, as I have been wearing it to school and the backpack being put on or off can put alot of stress on the jacket. So far, its stood up. The color is very nice, it really goes with my Federation!
Being that I am still rather small, the collar looks big on me, giving a slight Last Crusade look on me, but I'm sure on older people, it would look like a Raider's collar.
The side straps work well with the rectangular sliders. They hold pretty well. The action pleats do not hang out that far for me. The pockets have press studs on the pockets, which are helpful. There is no press stud on the storm flap (which came in handy as its been thunderstorming here in NY all week!) I ordered cotton with satin sleeves, but they gave me all satin. I don't really mind too much.
Sizing is good, in my opinion. It gives me some growing space in the shoulders and chest, and the sleeves end around the opposable part of the thumb. THe jacket itself ends a little lower than my hip.
Great jacket!! Can't wait to use it in the field during my teen tour. Once I size up a bit, I'm gonna start saving for the real thing (leather)!

To also use the oft used phrase, 'it will ride up with wear' too, and with your description, it sounds like it should hit you perfectly in short order. As to the lining....that's not satin...that's a smooth, lightweight polyester type lining, and is specific to the cotton jacket. Peter uses it a lot as a lining in his costume work due to it's comfort, and durability. Glad it worked for you. I can now breathe a collected sigh of relief! :D Regards. Michaelson

Heh...so thats why it felt familiar! An old suede jacket I owned had the same type of lining. I can't wait to get some pics up! The shirt and pants I wear in the play are pretty similar to Indy-colored. I hope I can get some pictures by Sunday, before I have to get makeup, etc. done.
