thanks for the welcomes everyone.
yeah funny thing is most of that stuff doesn't take much room. normaly i leave the journal behind where i make camp and carry some water (1000ml bottle if its me and the dog, yes we drink from the same bottle don't give me that look
) and a few trail bars or chunks of pemican. if i'm using the dog that particulr time then i generally also have a tennis ball, leash and remote. then it gets fairly full

Since I really only use my bag for costuming purposes, I usually carry a golden fertility idol (which actually needs some repainting as part of it got chipped and another part cracked...).
I've also carried my hip flask filled with Gentleman Jack.
The first time I ever wore the costume (my Mk. 1 costume -- we're now on...Mk. 3? Something like that), I had a small tape recorder on which I'd recorded the theme song looped on both sides of the tape for about an hour. I'd turn the tape recorder down to a point where you could just BARELY hear the song over the din of a noisy party and where it was just barely subliminal.
My costume was good (especially for wearing all non-official gear), but the tape recorder made it that much more authentic. Well, that plus the fact that I'd had some friends toss handfulls of gravel dust from a driveway at me for that "distressed" look.
Aside from that, I'll carry whatever isn't in my pockets on my Wested.

As I am more of an active wearer than a costumer, my list of items changes depending on where I'm going. On a normal day when I'm out geocaching or on vacation, I am usually not without:
- Pocketknife
Cell phone
Compass
Journal
GPS
Map
MRE fruit and nut snack
Batteries
Book
Pencil

I use mine for alot of things. I use it as a clip bag when I play airsoft to hold my extra A.K-47 clips, it fits around 5, 6 in a pinch. I use it to carry my CD Player and PSP when I travel on planes. When I go camping I stuff whatever I think may need in it. It actually serves as an everyday bag at school sometimes to carry smaller books, pens etc. I use it more for practical use than as Indy Gear actually.

I wouldn't be without my mk VII now,I use it to carry my wallet, keys, money, notebook and pen.I wear mine on my right side(I know it's not screen accurate but it's most comfortable for me)so I've put a belt clip(keyring-clip)on the side( where the little bit of string used to be),so I can clip it onto my belt-loop and it stops the bag sliding around my front(got tired of shifting it back all the time when I'm walking!)-it works great and the buckle stays right in the centre of my chest all the time.

Here is a picture of what I carry in my Mark VII when I'm out on a day hike or visiting historic sites, ruins etc.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a214/ ... ous030.jpg
Items include:
Sigg Canteen with cup (fits into back left inside pocket)
The British Air Ministry ration tin holds a couple energy bars,
The tobacco tin has heating tabs and extra matches, band-aids etc.
Oxo tin carries my brew kit with teabags, and cocoa.
Pencil box holds my sketching equipment.
notebook
cloth tape measure, and ruler
brush
fountain pen
sandbag
Not pictured but often included is a small digital camera usually carried inside the sandbag so the kit maintains its 1930's/40's look

Oooh, I'll play too.
I carry my bag everyday for work. I carry my tools, folding knife, wallet, change, palm tx, headphones (both cell and palm) and some miscellaneous stuff depending on the day. I've had my bag over 2 years and have never gone to work without it.
Who cares if it people think it looks like a purse. Still a better look than the 50 yr old CEO in a $3000 business suit and his kid's backpack...

In mine :
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!
I dont like to travel light and I like to keep all options open.........
What's in my bag other than holes and stains?

I thought I answered this ages ago, but I guess I hadn't. Here we go then:
1. Gaffer (duct) tape digital camera bag containing spare rechargable cells and the camera with which I took this photo.
2. Some Advil, because I work with the mentally challenged (please don't tell them I said that).
3. Coil notebook with ballpoint clicker pen for my film notes and ideas. It will be joined by a travel journal very soon.
4. Old fashioned address book. I have Feraud's and Guybrush's coordinates or numbers in there anyway, notes on which subway to take from Manhattan to Newark, as well as numbers and directions to my favourite L.A. lady friends. That thing has been freakin' invaluable wherever I take it.
5. Business card holder which contains my bus pass.
5a. Business cards.
6. My crappy Nokia cell phone. I think Nokia is Japanese for 'never works'.
7. Clip on sunglasses I got at the Rite Aid last time I went to L.A.
8. A 'take home' candy bag I got at an East Indian wedding. It was full of candied seeds and such. Now it is fixed to the strap ring and contains the following items:
8a. A multi function compass/magnifier/bottle opener/screw driver/achilles tendon slasher/ruler tool.
8b. A very compact and bright LED flashlight. (I wear the mini-mag on the belt).
8c. A multi function pocket knife which will have to stay home next time I travel. The corkscrew has come in handy more often than the knife.
8d. A packet of raw sugar from the 7-11 because I keep forgetting to bring sugar to work for my coffee.
8e. Club Obi Wan Challenge Coin. Oh, yes. AT ALL TIMES!
8f. Another compass in case the first one turns out to be a dirty liar!
Looking at this picture, I'm thinking this MKVII should be demoted to 'stunt bag' and I should start using the nicer one. Or the Canadian one, which is nicer yet and has a snap over the small inside pocket. Lookit that thing. Why on earth would you want to
distress one
on purpose if just wearing it daily can get it so beat up looking?

Ummm....
.....you guys scare me.
I thought that I packed like a girl. The only things that I routinely carry with me fit in my wallet or my pocket.
I don't really ever wear my Mk VII unless I am sightseeing or dressed as Indy. Even then, I don't have very much stuff in it.
