You bring up a good point. Modern car seats don't lend themselves to wearing full brimmed hats.

Only those with really floppy brims. Otherwise, nope..... :?

During the summer I wear my Gary White fed with just about anything. Mostly while selling ice cream on a freezer equipped tricycle. The light weight braver is perfect for blocking the sun and the vented sweatband keeps it cool. When I get caught in the rain it keeps my face dry enough to ride without too much trouble. To me it’s really about what you’re most comfortable with. If you only feel comfortable wearing an Indy hat with other Indy gear that’s absolutely fine, if you want to wear it with a bright orange tank top and shorts, well that certainly works too Image

Just make sure you wear the hat and not let it wear you no matter what.

Always amazes me to see men in pouring rain and snow with no headgear getting pounded by the elements. I will always have some type of fedora on my head and just do not get them getting soaked.......Also being in the Sun and getting fried.....

Suppose it was the 25-years in the Army that made me think being outside without headgear a weird thing.... ;)

I typically am wearing cargo pants with desert tan army boots, a green shirt (see pic) or a Indy shirt, wear those all the time, as well as my Indy jacket or military style jacket.

This one I took today.

I usually wear a leather vest in the cold weather. Sorry about the crummy image.

I can wear fedoras with most outfits, but never shorts or sneakers unless I'm at the beach in my straw Dobbs. It depends on the style of fedora and the style of outfit. I have more casual fedoras and I have dressier fedoras. I think an Indy can be used any where in between.

Here's a recent one with a Northwest Hat Co custom in silverbelly beaver, linen/cotton shirt, linen safari jacket, Mk VII bag, light wash Levi's, and Allen Edmonds bluchers.

This was today going out in the world.
Took my grandson and his friend to see Sonic, wasn't half bad. Loved Jim Carrey's character, he's such a character.

Thanks, that’s what I love about Jeeps, plenty of head room.
Even if the top is off, my Penman legacy (super floppy) stays on.

I love that this thread is 10 years old and still going. I know there's other's out there just as old or older but It's just one of the many perks of this forum.

Anyways, carry on. :TOH:

My everyday fedora is a tawny Stetson Temple, which suits my coloring, height, and face shape. It goes with casual stuff: field jackets, fly-fishing shirts, and occasionally a trench coat. I have no hesitation wearing it with my US Wings cape buffalo. ;)
A few years ago a friend gifted me with a lovely dove-gray vintage Dobbs with a 2" brim. Pairs nicely with a dark suit and overcoat. Someday I hope to be invited to someplace ritzy enough to wear it...

I was able to wear my fedora so much this past winter in Florida. We had the best season I can ever remember, cool temps abounded right up into April! So I would pair it with khaki trousers and some kind of linen shirt or sun shirt from Craghopper or similar. I am almost always in shorts here, even in winter but this year was great. Got to wear all kinds of normal stuff, not shorts and t shirts. :D

But I will wear it with shorts if I have to.

Still don't have the full Indy gear set up, the full cosplay never really interested me (though don't infer that as a knock against it, just not my style is all). Though I'm certainly not above a hoodie and hat pairing, I've been into trucker jackets as a good hat pairing, especially with the western style thin ribbons I've been preferring.

I have three or four go-to hats. The Stetson Fortune and Glory is currently filling the "Indy hat" spot, the others are a very old refurbished Stetson with a kettle curl brim, and this mid-century Stetson Junior Cowboy model:

Silverbelly is a great color to add to your hat repertoire of you're looking to step outside the Indy box. It's a very versatile color.

I do have one cosplay jacket though, the Jyn Erso rebel spy jacket from Rogue One...this one was harder to match a hat to. The pic below is with a Boss of the Plains. I wore the above Junior Cowboy with it once and got a compliment on my hat (and glasses) from Rita Moreno, so I think it worked out ok! \:D/

Nice collection Jlee562.
Now I have one question if that Jan Eros is in grey, try a KOTCS travel hat or a Raiders clipper.

But I’ve seen those jackets around in a dark olive color which is in my scheme of earth tone colors.

But I like your style, wear your lids and good health.
Oh and I’m jealous, you have a Stetson hat company near enough to be able to go to. If I did my paycheck would be very lacking.

Posted this pic on another topic, but relevant here too I suppose. Typically I wear my Fed IV with really anything that’ll compliment the chocolate brown color, but I do try to make it at least something button down. I live in Central Florida so usually a Henley style t shirt, something light weight, but even this standard maroon shirt looks okay to me. Hopefully I can add a moonstone Fed IV soon. Anyway, t shirts, sure, depending on the shirt, but never with shorts. [-X
