Mr Paul are you talking about the two strands that form the X on the first pattern? I have them both going under one strand .

Hi Caber,

I apologize for it having taken so long to get back to you about this.

Yes, I was referring to the two strands, they shouldn't both be going under one strand, with the base knot of Turks heads the strands should almost always (depending on the specific knot) be alternating one over one under once the knot has been completely tied. I hope that helps.

Ok im doing better on the turks, but still haven't gotten it down. . Yes I know , shocking . My problem now is I don't have enough room for the 3rd pass. I spread the strands as far apart as they will go (I think). Also im still getting alot of strands kinked up . they have a little pinch or wrinkle. They will not lay flat . What can I do ?

Hey I just wanted to show you guys the progress I have made on the turks knot. If you see anything that needs to be fixed let me know

Also I have another question . I was cracking my whip and the loop at the end came off. How do you secure it down? I did as the book said and wraped it with the string it gave me. Do any of ya'll suggest doing somthing else?

Hi Caber, I see the TH is ok, IMHO. Depending on the knot type, size, passes, the width of the lace, etc., you should expect some overlapping which, as far as I can see, is no big deal. And don't worry too much if it doesn't cover completely the foundation. Most whipmakers leave the bottom of the knot open, and yours seems to almost cover it completely, so it is very good.

All the best,

Aldo.

Regarding tying the hitch. Instead of going around with the strand and passing it over as to make it point down, towards the fall (and I assume you're using Edwards' book), you should make it go round, and pass it under, pointing towards the thong, then fold it down to align it with the fall. It doesn't matter if the flesh side shows up (the not so smooth or shiny side), instead of the grain side. Do the same with the rest of the strands and pull tight using pliers (perhaps some 3" away from the hitch if you don't have smooth pliers to prevent the lace from being damaged and just cut off the excess which got marked). Use lots of dressing, soap or conditioner to pull the hitches tight. The last hitch is not folded down, but it is tightened and passed through the loop in the fall. If done correctly, you need no string to prevent the thong from unraveling at this point.

All the best,

Aldo.

Wow thanks . that will help with my next whip.

The part of my whip that fell off is the loop at the end of my stock whip handle . The one that you put the thong through . How do I secure it down to the handle where it wont fly off again ?
