I guess you two haven't been paying attention. The leather was not smooth. That myth has been debunked
And how do you guys know this works? Have you tried this? If you haven't, are you willing to subject this theory to empirical testing? I might have a Wested in lamb I won't be wearing anymore you can borrow to test this.Dutch_jones wrote:You hit the nail on the HEAD !!!!!!Texan Scott wrote:
From the main page:
"Test fittings were done at Western Costumes with Tom Selleck and it became clear that there were functional problems with the Wilson’s jackets. Namely, the jacket would hang-up on the gun belt and the whip. Additionally, the leather used for the Wilson’s jackets did not lend itself well to artificial aging as the finish would flake off."
I have lobby cards from Raiders and a screen photo from the press kit, like the cobra scene above, and the leather appears smooth. Yet, you take a jacket and distress it, wet it and let it dry time and again, and after the whole process was completed, it would look like roughed up hide, as that is exactly what they did to the jacket. Take the natural oil out of the leather and this is the appearance you get.
The hawaii jacket and one of the studio jackets may be heavily grained. But many shots of the other jackets show virtually no grain. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that some of the jackets were mostly smooth, in as far as the old style leather as concerned.RCSignals wrote:I guess you two haven't been paying attention. Even Peter says they weren't smooth.Kt Templar wrote:The hawaii jacket and one of the studio jackets may be heavily grained. But many shots of the other jackets show virtually no grain. NOT debunked by far.
BTW this is a todd jacket thread and WAY off topic.
You want to start another thread RCS?
Actually I think Peter said they werent THAT smooth, but they were not dinohide. And if you think so thats fine, but there is a behind load of evidence stating otherwise.RCSignals wrote:Even Peter says they weren't smooth.Kt Templar wrote:The hawaii jacket and one of the studio jackets may be heavily grained. It wasn't me who took the thread OT, I don't need to start a new one. A new one would be unnecessary anyway as there are plenty on the top to resurrect if one so wishes.
So there you are. Continue talking in circles if you wish guys.
