I took those pics I posted earlier indoors, and the shirt looked darker than it is. here's a better representation of what it looks like.
This better represents MY Todd's shirt color.

It shrank a little, which I was glad for, when I put it in the dryer on the high/cotton setting. It doesn't with wash and drip dry.indyfan1234 wrote:you did the black sock thing right??

BigRex came up with the "black sock" method. Basically, you wash the shirt with a pair of brand new black socks and it REALLY tones down yellow. I swore my shirt didn't have any till I did this. Afterword, I was shocked to see a difference in the color!

Sounds like a very intriguing method... any possible side effect?

it looks much more like the stone color so ur saying it wont shrink if i do warm water it only shrinks if i put it in the dryer
so i wont be putting it in the dryer then
so i wont be putting it in the dryer then

Re: Shirt comparison: NH / Wested / Todd's
I WANTED mine to shrink thus the dryer.
No, I washed it many times without drying in the dryer and no shrinkage. Just finally decided I wanted it a tad smaller. And I washed it in warm, too.
The color is more stoneish than before, that's for sure.

Yeah, me too, Randy... I'd love to see some photos like that!
Throw the satchel over that shirt, pop on the hat and get outside and get some "arms swingin'" shots so we can see how it moves (and, of course, how it looks outside in that natural light)!

I still can't get rid of the paper-towel effect from the collar. It has reduced since the last wash and iron but not disappeared

Wouldn't you know today would be the day we get our much looked for rain?! I'll try and get some tomorrow or later this afternoon if the weather clears. It looks as if it's getting dark right now. I could do some Brunwald Castle shots at present though!Mitch LaRue wrote:Yeah, me too, Randy... I'd love to see some photos like that!

I have a couple more, but you get the point. As you can see, the shirt isn't yellow. I did very minimal editing on this, just color balance and such. BUT anything that altered the shirt color, I left off.
For those interested, that's my Keppler which I rebashed over the weekend, my Todd's bag and strap I distressed, web belt from Wade Egan, Gap Standard Fit jeans, and wearing my Todd's boots. which you can't see.

Randy, you're awesome.
LOVE those shots! You're a TEAM player, dude!
(I'm ALSO really jealous of that sunshine you've got going on... it's been POURING ALL DAY in my little corner of North America since I got up this morning.)
Thanks again for those photos. They say a LOT about that shirt... and you too, my friend.

Thanks Fox, glad they were enjoyed! It was fun, that was actually the most Indy gear I've had on at once.
I look downirght chubby in a couple of those! I've been trying to lose a little of my mid 20's spread. I was fairly skinny till 25 and a friend jinxed me, she said when I hit 25 I'll put on weight.. and did... haha
I was glad to help. They did show what you wanted, action and sunlight right?

I used one pair actually, just normal wash. If you didn't want shrinkage, you could drip dry.indyfan1234 wrote:this is my todds right now and i was thinking of doing the black sock thing.

thx for your help with the pics and all it really really helped
on another note i believe the main reason todds shirts are yellower or tannish in public was that the shirt section on the indy gear website said the shirts were actually tan or natural or should a say the yellow people call it and when filmed the camera caused the color to be more stone so they claim its different in person so todds might actually be right color just the in person color

Not really. They are just a but too yellow. The real one s and the NH ones have a slight pinkish tan tone to them. You don't see it in the Cairo sequences, it does show up in the Captain's cabin sequence.indyfan1234 wrote:thx for your help with the pics and all it really really helped

Re: Shirt comparison: NH / Wested / Todd's
Just got my Todd's shirt yesterday and now I can finally see (in person) what everyone keeps talking about "color-wise"...
It's an interesting color, to be sure...
Not exactly thrilled to see that upon close inspection I can see the exact same "mottling" on the collar that Erri spoke about back on the 19th in this thread (middle photo).
You might recall that Todd addressed the matter thusly:
(But in terms of the color, I'll definitely be trying the "sock" method that seems to work for so many...)
But how about I show you a photo FIRST before I do anything to it?
Here's the shot:
Please Note: I took this shirt straight outta the cellophane bag (tried it on quickly to make sure the size was fine... it was!) and then laid it - for comparison purposes - across the only piece of white-ish bristol board I could find (ironically, featuring a picture of "Indy" that my kid drew a couple of years back!)
(Kinda' looks like Indy's "sizing up" the color, doesn't it?)
I'll be giving the shirt the treatment tonight and I'll post another photo maybe tomorrow...
Y'know... just so I'm doing my part.

So, too bad for me that my collar looks like that, but... Todd's never done me wrong, so if he says it'll fade with wear, I'll buy that.Puppetboy wrote:I did go back and look through a pile of collars, and there is some slight variation on the visibility of the interfacing, probably due to varying heat during the fusing process. I will speak with the factory about this. Regardless, it should fade with wear.

Re: Shirt comparison: NH / Wested / Todd's
Yes, and also in many of the elstree scenes you can spot the pinkish colour. You don't see it in the Cairo scenes because, in my opinion, Spielberg used a lot of filters for those sunny locations and the colour caught in those doesn't give a real idea of the original colour although you can spot the right one when Indy gives Marion a date... also the screen used shirt (which, supposedly, is from Raiders) that Noel had was not yellow but indeed very close to NH shirts.Kt Templar wrote:They are just a but too yellow. That's just to discuss more on the colour of the original shirt...
I'm sorry that you got the same "easter egg" I got. I have washed it and ironed it only once till now and the paper-towel effect has decreased a bit but not disappeared yet. I'll worry after the 3rd attempt. For now you can trust Puppetboy's words and hope for the best, I'll let you know how it goes with mine.Mitch LaRue wrote: It's an interesting color, to be sure...

I haven't done the sock thing yet because if this collar difect doesn't disappear I do plan to send it back to Todd.

Re: Shirt comparison: NH / Wested / Todd's
Quick update from me:
Almost immediately after I wrote (last Tuesday) that I'd wait on the BLACK SOCK WASH method, I completely broke down and did it anyway.
Haven't taken the "After" photo yet for comparison purposes... but I will be doing that later today... look for the photos this afternoon under these very words.
By the way, can I just take a second and talk about how GREAT that shirt looks when it comes straight (meaning "wrinkled") outta' the dryer? I think that just really captures the "look"...
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a nice looking shirt when it's been ironed, too... but I dunno... there's something about that "rumpled" look.

Man! There's nothin' like bein patient, IS there, Erri?
So, here's that photo again that was taken taken "pre-wash", followed by the "post wash" shot.
Before:
After:
I've gotta say... I realize that the translation from
"real life-to-camera-to-my monitor-to-Photobucket-to YOUR monitor-to-your eyeballs-to-your brain" ALWAYS leaves plenty of room for error/interpretation/etc... so take this with a grain of salt...
But I don't think I see much of a difference between the shirts (except for a few cool lookin' wrinkles!) And, of course, the pre-wash shirt exists in the past only, so I have nothing "real" to compare THIS shirt with.
Ah well... no harm, no foul...
The point is:
I like this shirt VERY much!
(Now to get some pants....)

My wife had just picked up a few pairs the day previous and they hadn't been washed. The tag was still on them when she handed them to me (I took it to be opportunity knocking!)
But in the end, no difference that I could see! It might work for some, but for whatever reason, it didn't work for me.

Interesting thread though. I have the NH, the Wested and the AB, but since I have more than one Wested it has become my everyday shirt. I'm very happy about the quality of all shirts but I'm now after a more SA CS shirt. So what would You experts suggest for that?
PS: For everyday use I would prefer a heavier material than the ones mentioned, but is Todd's heavier than Wested?

Magnoli is the way to go for an CS shirt.

Is Magnoli's fabric heavier than Wested's, and what color should I go for, for a CS-shirt?Indiana Holt wrote:Magnoli is the way to go for an CS shirt.
Also, I have no idea of my meassurements but I use a size X-Large in both Wested and AB and they fit perfectly. What shall I order at Magnoli to get the same meassurements?

Re: Shirt comparison: NH / Wested / Todd's
yes its heavier then westeds.
Magnoli does only custom made garments and clothes, so you need to give him your full body specs.

Sounds fine, thanks
Only problem is I HATE doing meassurements so much that the Binkmeister once send me an american meassuring-tape just to avoid confusions. Wested X-large has a perfect fit to me. Does anyone in here know what to order at Magnolis to get the same size?

I just came to think of it...stupid me... I ordered a couple shirts from magnoli and what I did was I measured a wested Large shirt and gave him the specs.so measuring a Xlarge shirt will work.
