Tony Nowak Indy I #666/888

I'm with you. It's an odd fit. Too large looking, but somehow tight and also too long. Maybe it needs to settle in and shape to fit the wearer before we can really say.Raider S wrote:Wow, I really can't get my head around how this one fits. It now looks way way tight in the chest as well as somewhat short with very long sleeves. The back panel taper is quite unique.
I wouldn't use a scene where the jacket looked tight to excuse your jacket being a little too tight. After all you want a great jacket that's also functional, and it seems zipping up should be a requirement. Anyways, I would use this pic if any:indyrocks wrote: Anyways I'd be interested to hear what you guys have to say. I seem to remember the shot of Indy in the Raven bar leaning back against the bar itself with the jacket zippered and it looked pretty snug in the chest....
When I get a chance I will take some outdoor shots.

It looks good, I think a little tight and hope it does stretch for you. But it's quite fashionable fitting that trim.

Only indyrocks can judge if it's too tight.
I wonder if in this picture

it just doesn't need to be tugged down at the front?

It is indeed an interesting fit. I actually love the tapered look from behind. It's sort of a blend between an Indy jacket and a motorcycle jacket.
In any case the most important thing to me is functionality and fit, and when I wear it I see both. It's not uncomfortable in the chest nor is it difficult to zip. While I'm young and trim I'm happy I can pull off a fitted jacket anyways.
Tony responded to my questions last night and I spoke with him as well. Here's what he said in a nutshell:
HELLO AVIV ! ACTUALY THAT IS A TRUE RAIDERS JACKET MAIN TRADEMARK ,THE JACKET WILL NOT STAY ON YOUR SHOULDERS IT WILL ALWAYS TRY TO PULLBACK AND EVEN IT IS YOUR SIZE WHEN YOUT TRY TO ZIP IT UP IT WILL BE TIGHT JUST LIKE IN THAT MOVIE , BUT IT WILL STETCH , YOU SEE . ANYWAY THE BEST THING TO DO NOW IS TO WEAR IT , THE TIME IS ON YOUR SIDE , SOON YOU WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT .SINCERELY AND ON STANDBY TONY NOWAK .
He said to wear it and it will stretch. He also said this was the leather he made his first Indy I prototype out of, #000/888. He said he knows the leather quite well and that it will stretch and mold so I'm sticking with that at this point. Plus, as he said, he's "on standby." ;-)

Hah! I thought of the Rocketeer movie as well. Although it's darker than in those last pics I took. The camera flash definitely lightens everything. I'm excited to see how it molds and shapes itself. Tony reassured me for about 10 minutes on the phone about the fit and said to "beat the *&^% out of it" etc. As you can see in his email, I will "see soon" how it will react. I'm definitely looking forward to it. This is becoming quite an experience.Hatch wrote:Love that color and the look from the back especially has like a 30's feel going to it...almost a "Rocketman" meets Indy with a little motorcycle thrown in....Hatch
It looks right (good) to me. You don't have the same body type as Ford and these guys are telling you that it doesn't fit based on one picture where the jacket is zipped up farther than Ford ever did in Raiders (except for the still above where Ford is in a different position). Cheers
PS- Ford never looked better as Indiana Jones than in those Raven Bar scenes. The jacket looked good and the hat didn't look so exaggerated.

I agree about the Raven Bar scenes. His look in those shots epitomizes Indy in many ways. although I do like the Idol scenes as well for that reason.Rundquist wrote:It looks right (good) to me. I think it's interesting that you point out how we never see Ford with the jacket zipped up as far as I did in that pic. I did that on purpose for that exact reason. I knew many would find it too tight but I think this just goes to show what a deceiving jacket it really is. I truly believe this has to do with the "poor" design/construction of the original. Tony has replicated it quite well.
I am indeed lankier and 2 inches taller than Ford (although as Holt so kindly pointed out, my pecs are defined ....kidding kidding but thanks for the shout Holt I do try ) Of course it will look different on me in many ways. This has shed a lot of light on the mysteries of the jacket for me. I was always more concerned with fit than I was with zips/snaps/etc. Look at the pic of it open on me. I think that's IT.
Cheers
Well after discussing some things with Tony he told me "not to compromise with anything." I'm sending it back to him to have 2 small sizing issues adjusted. After wearing it around a bit the sleeves felt a tad long so I'm taking 1/2 inch off, and he's going to resize the chest as well.
What's interesting about the chest is the part that's too tight is not from pit to pit, rather it's about 2 inches ABOVE that measurement. It has to do with the odd pattern of the jacket I believe. After showing some pics to Tony he knew exactly what I was talking about and pledged to adjust. Really excellent customer service such as I haven't experience with a custom garment.
Cheers!

Agreed. So I spoke with Tony again, he's got the jacket back and will be going to work on it "right away." Here's a question to ponder while I wait: Is he going to have to completely reconstruct it in order to give me more room in the chest? I would assume he'll have to re-cut a from piece, I don't really know...
What do you guys think? I didn't really ask.....It wasn't tight from pit to pit, rather above that, right across the pecs. It's awesome that he's willing to do this, and I'm quite happy considering the cost of the jacket. It was weird how it fit in one part of the torso and not the other....

Hey Indyrocks,
the jacket may be a bit too tight compared to the screen version, but definitely looks hot and you look great in it, but I can understand if you want to tweak it -- especially as the man himself is suggesting a fix.
Just looking at the pics though, my first impression was that it looks awsome!
Looking forward to the new cut . . .

Thanks for the kind words. I'm actually a fan of the tighter look myself, and don't care about screen accuracy. However my arm movement was restricted by the chest so it definitely needed some tweaking and Tony insisted that I be completely happy so I listened! He should be working on it this week and I will post pics ASAP when I get it back.Garzo wrote:Hey Indyrocks,

I know, I know. I am so cool to be the first one to think of that.666??? That is freaking awesome!
Just kidding.....
Anyways Tony emailed saying I'll have it in my hands on Monday 12/15. It probably won't look terribly different but will FEEL different as I asked for 1/2 inch on each side of the upper part of the chest. He also took 1/2 inch OFF the sleeves.
I just want to take a moment and play the shill. Tony is the most genuine and helpful vendor I have ever dealt with, as far as custom products go. He was ready to help and make sure that everything was perfect. I know I don't need to go on singing praise and so forth, but people should really keep this in mind. Whether you're spending 1K on the shrunken lamb, or less on a different leather he will take care of you 100%. It's just been a great experience.
Ok I'm done gushing.
True story Tony is definitely one of the nicest people I have metindyrocks wrote:I know, I know. I am so cool to be the first one to think of that.666??? That is freaking awesome!
