Great stuff! Nice work on everything. I assume you had to hand fashion the bow yourself? I should look into getting some ribbon myself, i get the feeling that it's one of those things that just needs to be periodically replaced anyway. The ribbon on my gray hat has salt marks on it from sweat that I can't get rid of, so I can see this being a regular maintenance thing. I should also research the Dalex method of which you speak, because the stitching is nearly invisible. Very nice!

Dalexs process for repalcing a ribbon can be found here http://www.dalexs.whitvani.net/hat/hatpage.html, pretty intuitive. I figure if I can follow these instructions anyone can.

Yeah, replacements I think are a regular thing I think for ribbons. They get stained & dirty & faded and hat cleaner can only do so much. There are other ribbon manufacturers out there & I'm sure our resident hat makers might even sell some of their ribbon if asked really nice. But all in all it is fairly easy work & a good matching thread goes a long way to making the stitching invisible. I just basically copied what I viewed on one of my hats refurbished by Art Fawsett forthe stitching. You can't even see his stitching on the bow. He does fantastic work.

OK here are a couple of quick shots now that I have gotten a bit of a bash in there. This is my first real hat of any kind of quality and I have to say WOW! This is a nice hat, very soft felt. My only concern is, and please answer honestly, does it look too big? I am considering trimming the brim more, but want to wear the hat a few days to get used to it before I do anything irreversible.





Aside from my concern about the size of the hat I absolutely love it. I'll post more pics later. I want to get back to playing with my new favorite piece of gear.

I would say it's hard to say with pics like that. Don't mean to tag you. Maybe have someone take a couple of shot for you.

Hey Venkman, is that color in the photos right on? I like it.

Offhand, looks like a terrific lid, but honestly, maybe a bit too big overall. Distance shots would help. What are the brim dimensions?

Honestly Venkman, I would say the dimensions of the crown seem to fit your face. The brim to my eye seems a tad wide for your thinner face. But, that is my artists eye seeing things in proportions.

Before you go trimming I would give the brim some time to break in and shape the way you want it to (like a month or two). It took three years before I trimmed my Fieldmaster as I thought the brim was a tad wide for the crown height eventually. You can see the transition in one of the other Camptown threads & how it improved the proportions. But with the Legend & it's taller crown no trimming is needed because it appears proportionately right to me.

But definitely play with it & tweak it to your liking along the way. Even wad it up a bit to soften the felt & make it better able to be shaped. If you have seen Lee Kepler's video you know what I mean. It seems to be a never ending process, then you get it perfect and then buy a new lid to start the process all over again.

If you don't mind could you post some pics out doors just to get a better lighting comparison? Sometimes that will make a difference in how a hat will appear on a person between artificial lighting & natural lighting. Again, just an artists eye seeing the world.

All in all a very nice looking lid. Enjoy it in all kinds of weather and situations. You sould be experiencing snow or rain up there in BC so take it out & enjoy it. Congratulations!

Thanks for all the input everyone. Oak, I agree that these aren't the best shots to get a proper idea of the over all proportions. I value any input you might have when I have better pics. I'll take some tomorrow during the day to get some natural light. My honest feeling is that the hat is just a touch too big over all, but not so much so that it looks unnatural. Just the difference between a large small and a small medium.

Daniel Jones, I will give it a bit of thought before I go trimming the brim, give it the opportunity to properly break in first.

Here are some better shots if the lid on my bean. In some shots, at certain angles it looks pretty good, but in others it shows it's just a touch over sized. opinions wanted. And how's the bash coming along? I figure outside un-biased eyes will give me a real sense of how the hat really looks.

This lid is shaping up to be one of my favorite daily wearers with each weathered use. I hope others are able to get theirs and enjoy it as much.

Thanks CoolMiester! The ribbon on the Fieldmaster is a replacement. After about 4 years the old one was very sun faded & really needed it. The new one is from Todds. I did the same thing to my Legend around this last November. The darker color I think works much better on both hats.

is that a LC hat because if it is i gotta say "wow", best crown bash
ever on a LC. normally the LC hats have a CS crown bash but this
doesn't. it looks pulled right out of this picture.



it has that uneven, a bit off center crown dents.

Nah, it's a generic CS bash and the brim is taking on some curl from being handled as it is fairly soft now. the lopsidedness of the bash was right out of the box & I decided to just leave it that way. Gives it a character all its own so to speak. A Bob Ross would say, "A happy accident". I figure the more I handle it the tighter the pinch will become and so on. It'll be interesting to see how it finally settles in. For me the take a while. It took about three years to get my Fieldmaster the way I wanted there & now I'm contemplating getting it reblocked, so we shall see. The Legend on the other hand I like as is.
