cheap dog food has leather shavings in it for filler...so I guess it would do in a pinch!

It depends on the tanning, but yes, leathe dies have nutritional content. Normally I would suggest the belt before a jacket, as you probably need the protection from the elements moreso than a piece of skin to eat....

A few survival books indicate Leather is OK to eat as well.
