-Jonesing,

I’ve had both the LL Bean and Orvis, and they are essentially the same non-boot cut as the LL Bean, except, the Orvis will run larger in the waist by nearly a size up. I’ve noticed even when you size down, the Orvis seems to balloon out more where the pleats congregate. So if your already in good shape, you may not really like the old MC Hammer look. Both pants have the “PERMENANT” crease line since they’re considered dress pants.

As to the color, whew, ...all I can say is it depends on who you talk to at LL Bean. At first they claimed the item number TA25771, which is given on indygear.com, is no longer available even though it will come up on a ‘search’ of their site. I was told the ‘new’ items have different numbers and are pictured there on the site. After awhile I convinced the person to check into it and she came back and said yes, they still have that old number. So I ordered both, just to see what the difference was. When I got them, the ONLY difference was that one leaned more toward the brownish, while the other leaned more toward the grayish side. As to the Orvis, the color is definitely taupe, but is a bit darker than both LL Bean pants.

The long and short of it is, rarely does one item have EVERYTHING. It seems there are always compromises to make depending on what you’re after. Hope you could follow along, I think I may have gotten lost a few times writing this myself.

I just found this thread and I would just like to say something that I feel very strongly about: Pants are NOT an alternative. They are mandatory!

......unless you wear a kilt.

...and isn’t it a gull dang shame! I mean how many times have you woken up late for work, or school, or some appointment and wished you could just leap out of bed and drive off without all that fussin’ over gettin’ dressed and all that other silly stuff in the morning, eh!

I’ll bet you’d never find those Hovito types worrying about ordering pants from some website, no sir. Besides I imagine it all depends on what kind of shape your bodies in. <shrug>

Thanks, Rixter. Yes, that made perfect sense. I appreciate you taking the time to respond so thoroughly. I love details.

Yeah, wouldn't this all be so much easier and less expensive if we were all trying to dress like the Hovitos, instead of Jones?
