I don't think it would cost that much more ( but not sure ) but really would slow down on how fast you would get a hat.

It's fairly commonly done. Art Fawcett does it, and I believe Steve does as well. I have vintage fedoras with customer initials on the band.

Congratulations on the new venture. I hope it is a great success.

So what hat sizes do you currently have Oak? Do you have a 7 1/2 block?

I like the design. Bulldog tough... are you a Butler University Alumni? I'm headed there this fall.

Steve uses an old machine to punch little holes through a sweatbant to spell out a name or intials as seen here...

Alan, JF is right about Steve and art I don,done know. I havens seen it done. Doesn't mean it not or couldn't. It slow things down a great deal. The sweatband is stamped and if I hand to call and give a name to each sweat. I would have to wait for it and pay a little more. Then what if I cut it wrong ( misstakes happen). I wouldn't care to much about the expense but I would have to wait again for the sweat. I don't think this is going to happen.

as for sizes, I'll post sizes real soon.

Their punch machines are antiques, and all they punch in the sweats are initials, not names, just to toss that out there.

Just out of curiosity, why the high wheel bicycle? I love it, but am simplying inquiring as it is an image I don't really associate with hats. Also, any news on the development of the hats?

The bike has a lot of different reasons I used it. It's a very old style bike ( old style hat). I like the image, and the last reason I'll keep to myself.

I'm working on getting all the supplies that I want to use. Nailing them down is not as easy as you might think. Getting the sweats with name and info takes time and the logo on the liners will take a bit of time aswell.

I also want to get a few of the details improved to where I'm happy with them. I know the photo's look good but there are a few detail that I'm not 100% happy with.

I'm trying to get everything worked out by July but will not let a hat out of my hands that I'm not happy with.

I'd be proud to have one of your hats be my first 'Indy' hat. They're looking very very good.

Your logo looks very classy, although I think with your moniker Bending Oak, an old growth live oak tree would look more appropriate:





with dark burgandy and gold tones would look great, just an idea...

Here's the Beaver felt hat from my other thread. I stripped it down and re-worked it. I'm trying to improve on some of the details that just bug me. Here are a couple of pics. I decided to change the hat to a CS hat.

This is not the ribbon I will be using. I hate this ribbon. I'm just using it to work on getting the process of stitching the ribbon on.

This just keeps looking nicer and nicer, BOak!

For lead times. I don't know as I have not excepted any orders from anyone but from a couple of friends that I know here. As for the cost , I'm still working out what it will cost me for the supplies ( per hat) and how much time I put into each one. I don't expect my time is worth a great deal right now but is worth something. I haven't found the exact ribbon I want to use but I think I might have found one. I want the hat to be of the highest quality but don't want to get carried away.

Ok, that is a sweet lid you've made there my friend. Darn'd near customer worthy. So...I know you've been wearing that thing all day, how's it feel? How's the turn working with it? You know this is COW, and even though we all know you made it yourself, we still all want to read a review.

I have been wearing it all day. It's a CS hat so no turn to this hat. It's not bad but not yet worthy of putting a name or logo on it.

I have received a ribbon that I like but have a couple more samples of ribbon that should arrive in the next couple of days. I should have that taken care of soon with any luck.

Sweatband and liner is just a matter of them making the liners with logo on them and the sweats being stamped and shipped.

The ribbon is the big hold up and me trying to get a few things to come out more the way I want.

What about a 7 1/8? I want an Oak bad...

If you are taking orders for the first batch of hats, Oak, I too would like in. From what I have seen, these hats are very promising. If you have a list that you are putting together, please, put me on there.

That's a disdinct possability John! Let's see a West coaster, with the same...well anyway, plus if a recomendation were offered...holy cow! Get to work Oak! You've got some practicing to do! And at $500,000,000.00, 66 years old and counting, who knows how long before preproduction starts. Let's hope this time Larry will write it... What you standing around for? Go make hats!

I didn't want to get a list going because I didn't want people to get upset if things don't go flying by July first. I think I might have found a ribbon I like but my sweat guy changed who he get his stuff from. I don't like his new hides. I'm off looking for sweats again.


Another reason I haven't taken any list is I haven't put a price tag on it yet. If you would like to send me your size in inches and what color you might like ( in a PM) I might be able to at least have an idea as to what felt I need to order next.


As for the felt. I know it's will stand up to almost anything and will resist shrinking and tapper.
