How much do you think that jacket will go at auction?......I heard that an Elvis Presly jumpsuit recently sold at an estimated $1.2 million!

Not that much because its not actually a screenused item. But My guess would be a 5 number figure no doubt.

I am not even a goob when it comes to the origin of the jacket, and the
history of where the production jackets ended up, but it sure looks to me
like the jacket in the Smithsonian matches exactly to what is shown in
some of the screen captures posted from the movie, and production still
shot.

Holt,
Before you send your order in. I'm certain it isn't black, it looks like it might be a satin or nylon but it looks brown to me, from that and also a lot of the hi res shots we've seen. I know Peter says they were all cotton, but it looks pretty shiny on most shots!
Posted: Tue Jun 10, 2008 3:38 pm
by Michaelson
As a casual observer, KT, shiny or not, I'd still be surprised if that lining used in the LC jacket were not cotton, considering how much Ford HATED the nylon blend lining in the Cooper he wore in TofD.
I'd personally doubt he'd wear a satin lined Wested in all those desert shots...at least for very long. He's even seen wearing the jacket in production stills between shots, so the jacket must have been at least tolerable. Only cotton allows that, in my opinion.
Like I said, though, just an observation.

It does fly in the face of what we've heard. Perhaps it was one of those shiny cottons, mercurised maybe. It could just be a trick of the light.
I know that Bernie insisted on a man made fibre for his samples from Peter for CS because of all that water. Maybe the Nowak owners can pipe up as to what the lining of that jacket ended up as.

It is, but that jacket is the 'Kurtz' jacket, made after the movie was made. A promotional jacket.
The hero jacket DOES have a leather collar stand.

You're right, it is the Kurtz jacket with cotton lining. From those screen caps the hero jacket looks like it had some sort of rayon or acetate lining.
Oh by the way, how did the Kurtz jacket get all beat up on the inside like that? The right armpit lining is torn apart.

I do wish _ would stop by this thread. That definitely seems to be a screen used jacket, which goes against what was perceived as fact for so long. Which is not at all uncommon around these parts, but an interesting development to say the least.
I'm not as convinced that's Ford on the left of that picture. He and his stuntman looked very much alike during LC, and the profile is truly odd. Be easier if we could see his chin/scar.
Either way, it seems extremely likely that jacket was in fact in the film...

That's definitely Ford in that photo. The ears, the chin, the hair. The only reason the nose looks weird is because there's a fold in the paper running right through the nose. Also those 2 pictures are from slightly different angles. One is a dead on profile, the other he's looking slightly away.

The guy in the photo is Mr. Harrison Ford. In the second pic the nose seems smaller, that's due to the light.
What happened to his NOSE?
