Those SMLE's are a bit of an addiction too, aren't they. Obviously the early ones are various No. 1's, what about the war dated ones, No.1 or No. 4's? I've got two No. 5 Jungle carbines, 1944 dated, and a never fired 1946.

A No1MkIII with bayonet affixed definitely looks like it means business. I've got one from 1917 that is amazingly accurate, with a beautiful, smooth action. I hope I function half as well when I'm 91. :)

And, yeah, I'm one of those guys who yells "The No4 rifle wasn't available in 1935! It came out in 1939, and wasn't widely issued until 1941!!!" when watching the end of TOD. :)

Interbak,

The two war dated SMLE's are No1 Mk III

The Australians (Lithgow) never retooled to manufacture the No4 rifle.
Nor did the Ishapur plant in India.

And yes SMLE's can be an addiction, but a good one I think. :)

Hey Redmon,

I just got home from a local gun show where I picked up another SMLE. It's a really clean No.4 Mk1*, just what I was after, very clean, excellent wood work. It's a Savage Arms manufactured version, marked Property of United States. There was also an absolutely mint Webley WG, but $3600.00 was a little too rich for me.

The addiction continues, Brian

Sorry I haven't been here for a while, I've been busy teaching, but as the school year draws to a close you'll see a lot more of me. Anyhow, the Luger is a P08 Army. And Vogel used one when he was holding Elsa hostage. It's good to be back, by the way, so much has happened since I was last here!
