I also have a gray AB on order, as well as a KotCS order placed with both Marc for a Deluxe AV and with Steve for another beaver AB.
My other hats include a straw Panama, a cotton Tilley T-2, two driving or gold style caps (one tan and one gray tweed), and a Tilley wool Winter Hat with ear flaps for those cold winter pre-dawn morning dog walks).
In one rarely used corner I keep a straw 1980's cowboy hat, a brown felt fedora style that got rained too many times while camping to be recognizable. The brim is very sloppy and floppy and the crown tapers severely. I also have a straw fedora with a Mickey Mouse printed hat band that I picked up one year at Disneyland.
I also have hats for other costumes like my Captain Jack Sparrow Tri-corner (worn in my Avatar) that was custom made and a Willy (Depp) Wonka top hat.
I would answer the poll, but it looks closed to me.

MarkVII
Mark VII:
I believe I commented on your excellent Jack Sparrow costume in a different thread but it really looks great. The hat really makes it. And speaking of Avatar photos - that is a Tilley I am wearing in my Avatar photo. It has been my travel hat for many years because it is very packable and it is a great hat.
Do you wear your hats often and what kind of reaction do you get (the Indy hats that is)? Also the poll is still open if you are interested in responding.

Guess I'm waiting for AB's production hat.
Bob.
Thanks Bob. You are, like many of us, a hat person for sure. Thanks for your response.

1 - AB KotCS (on order)
2 - Akubra Federation Deluxe, brown (sitting at Optimo)
3 - Stetson 8X, silver belly, circa 1970-75
4 - Dobbs Regency Snapbrim, fawn
5 - Bailey Wynn, stingey brim
6 - Stetson Outback (crushable wool)
Currently trying to aquire:
Royal Stetson Whippet
vintage Adam fedora
Resistol kitten-finish fedora
Just wore my Bailey last night to take the wife out for a long-overdue date night, and have been wearing my Dobbs today.

Thanks Andy, and yes for a Newbie you are doing well. Welcome to the hobby by the way.
You said you just got into this hobby this past summer. What was it that got you interested in the Indy hat so recently?

It had a great deal to do with this site. I bought the IJ series on dvd recently (this past summer), after having watched them for years on vhs with my folks. I found this forum whilst searching for info on the Indy hat, and the rest (as they say) is history. I then embarked on this crazy (and sometimes expensive) journey that is vintage/retro hat collecting, and have been quite enthralled ever since. The AB was my first purchase, all the others coming along as I wait for it. And, not to mention it... my wife thinks I look good in a hat!
Next up (after my AB gets here) is an Art Fawcett-made Whippet, and a silver-belly 100% beaver Open Road that I'll be making myself in conjunction with my local hat shop in Rapid City, Star Of The West (owner: Brad Montague).

Well, I am only a dig worker here, because I just discovered the joy of owning a fedora about two weeks ago and hence, only found this forum recently. But already I have four fedoras and one, well, I don't know what you would call it - an Akubra Riverina safari - ? a fedora? I also have:
Borsalino Bellagio - Gray
Stetson Sutley - Black
Akubra Bogart - Black
Akubra Stylemaster - Acorn Fawn
I have more than one fedora because I love them and I wanted one color to match with different clothes and for different occasions. Black is more formal and classic, so I got two in black. I still need one in Indy brown, but that can wait...I think. Oh, and silverbelly is very cool. Another reason for more than one is to try different hat manufacturers. Eventually, I'll get a custom made one from one of the member vendors.

Welcome! I get the different colors. makes a lot of sense. In fact there is the whole ongoing discussion here on COW about Indy having a grey fedora for when he took the clipper in Raiders. Great avatar by the way and thanks for your comments here.

My brother made count hats today to prove I am crazy.
1 grey regular Federation
1 grey borsilino
2 brown regular federations
1 brown federation delux
1 Miller
2 Keppler
2 AB
(2 AB ordered)
I have 4 raiders, 2 clean and 2 dirty, 2 LC one dirty one clean. I hope to have two CS 1 dirty and clean. If the facotry CS happen then this number will go up for sure. I use some for hats for normal wear and some for conventions. Every hat is specific to its own situation. I hope to talk my self into using one hat for all purposes but I can't shake the feeling that I will damage. I am scared to wear my AB because It is such a nice hat and they are hard to get. I am trying to get over this fear.

1 Akubra Fed Reg - Dirty Raiders!
1 Dorfman - for leaving on a shelf
1 Stetson Saxon in gray - doesn't fit and don't like the brim... dangit...!
1 Dobbs vintage in dark brown
1 AB Raiders
1 AB (On order)
1 vintage Dorian Portofino - anybody ever heard of either the company of the model? It was my great grandpa's. It's a light brown (sort of camel colored), not too pounced looking hat. It's a little big for me, but it's a very interesting hat...

Thanks for your response and it looks like you have a great collection of hats. Where do you store them all!
I know what you mean about not wanting to damage your best hats. From what i have read about the ABs and the AB deluxes they will look better with use and are designed for this. I do understand trying to preserve something. I remember I had a pair of shoes that were one of my favorites. Wore them for years but then I started rotating my shoes and actually stopped wearing these ones to try to preserve them. One day i decided i would wear them again. When i put them on the soles basically disintergrated when I walked and the shoes were garbage. Same thing happened with a pair of boots i really liked. The rubber disintergrated from lack of use. What I learned from that was if you like something use it. If you dont it may just rot in your cupboard or get stolen or lost. Life is short. Things can be replaced time cannot.
JMHO.

Personally I enjoy having my collection for a piece of history, but mostly because I enjoy the variety each day or season. They can mix & match with a variety of situations from work, to the golf course, to just having a fun evening with friends. It's never the same twice.
Cheers!

Well, at last count I think I have about 20 Fedoras.
Two were former cowboy hats converted.
There about 5 stetsons, and in those my favorite is my light grey Whippet.
Then there are a couple of Dobbs, a Dunlap, Adams, Mallory & Portis. Then my two Camptown fedoras round out the collection, both with an Indy Raiders bash.
Cheers!

a nice older Stetson from DRSEUSS
KOTCS AB on order, due in 2 months (at last!)
just got into this hobby this past summer. What was it that got you interested in the Indy hat
Not directed at me, but the timing is nearly the same. I got into the Indy hobby last spring. As I had mentioned somewhere else, my usual dress in the late 60s was brown leather jacket (WWII surplus pilot), fedora (Salvation Army), work boots, khaki shirt and chinos. I got the Indy boxed set last winter as part of my general movie collection and thought it would be nice to dress that way again. It was during my searches for fedoras on the web that I found this site. I lurked for a couple of weeks and just got pulled in by all the neat stuff.

Can I count the two that I have on order? I just ordered an AB because I really, REALLY want a cool fedora! Then I read Kaplan's thread about his new Belloq Panama and it looked so good, I ordered one of those, too. (I'm a little compulsive!) I figure the Panama will be great for Georgia summers when I might not want a heavy felt hat on my head. We'll see.

hmm... let's see.
I have my PB custom which I don't wear anymore.
My AB that I wear almost everyday (thanks again, Steve!)
a straw hat similar to that of Belloq - which I often wear in the summer
and an CS AB on order.
So depending on how you count them, I have either 3 or 4 hats. Do I need them all? No...I could probably get rid of the PB, but it needs some repair work before I could sell it and I haven't got around to having that done. So I guess my reason for buying so many (not that many really) fedoras is the compulsive impulses that drive everyone here. :junior: -M
