I've seen a huge variation in the knot colors with the whips in his shop, so I'm guessing that they are made how they are made.

I don't know if it showed up too well in the pics, but the darker knots are more "orange" than "brown".

What a beauty! Mega-congrats on that Morgan, G! In those pics it already looks like its been aged some, in a good way. I was shocked at how light and almost white my natural roo was when I first got it.

thanks alabama! i reckon that perhaps david reached for this guy a couple o times when visitors wanted to try out a 10'.....as i hear stories of him allowing visitors to sample his products. i could be wrong but if its true then this makes this whip that more interesting

Congrats on the fine whip. It looks great. Although it's certainly possible your whip has undergone some test whipcracking out on the lawn, I think the color differences are primarily due to variations of the hide. This is not something to worry about. As you know, hides don't come off assembly lines. They are natural products, so color variations are to be expected. I have a feeling DM would consider this a minor cosmetic issue, in no way effecting the performance of the whip. Over time, as the whip ages and darkens, such slight differences in shade tend to even out and become less noticeable.

DM's 10 footer is a awesome whip. It cracks like thunder. It just starts to give you that taste of 'long whip' feel--you won't get that get that from 6 or 8 foot whip. OTOH, IMHO, it's a big chunk of whip for someone new at this. If you are new at whipcracking, please take it slow. Wear eye protection. Although DM's whips are tough, they do seem to appreciate a gentle breaking in process. If you muscle the whip too much, trying to force a crack, you just might over stress it. Try to get some one-on-one lessons from someone who knows what they are doing. That will be a huge help.
