What's a 'press stud'? Could it be what we call a 'snap'?Castor Dioscuri wrote:Jaredraptor, I think binkmeisterrick's post was actually referring to the first sentence in the thread, and not directed at you
A press stud are the circular 'studs' (for lack of a better word) on the top and bottom of the LC jacket near the zipper. I suppose a 'snap' would be a good way to describe it, as that's exactly what they do.191145 wrote:What's a 'press stud'? Hi Michaelson, I posted the 'Castor Dioscuri IV' jacket thread to simply show off my fourth Wested jacket order, and hence the title was in reference to that. (It may also be seen as a pun since the jacket is also my take on the Indy IV jacket, but that thread was created more to celebrate and show off my fourth Wested)Michaelson wrote:CD, so, do you want your other post announcing the same thing removed and/or locked? No reason to have two 'announcements' of your jacket.
Regards! Michaelson
The leather is Wested's latest addition: Vegetable Tanned Leather. The only other CoW member that I'm aware of that possesses a jacket with this type of leather is Indiana G btw. More on the leather here:Canada Jones wrote:Castor:

Thank you! Somebody had to do it, and since I was getting another Wested, I figured what the heck... Might as well get a space in that CoW hall of fame, eh?IndyMcFly wrote: Oh my gosh! You're really on top of this!!! I think that's the first replica anything from Indy IV!! What color is that though? It looks like a light brick color.
I have to say though, it looks pretty dang close to me. Great job to you AND Wested.
In Christ,
Shane
That quote was taken a little of context. I was speaking in terms of 'movie logic', which I expanded on a post after I posted the above._ wrote:No. There were significant modifications to some details and the basic underlying jacket pattern was created from scratch, though based on a non-Wested jacket procured from the LucasFilms archives. The jacket from the archives was actually one they procured from Lee Kepler in 1987. When production kicked-off for LC, Lee was contacted about supplying jackets. He deferred, and actually sent Anthony Powell's team to Peter Botwright. The jacket Peter was then making was based on their copying the Jacket Lee Kepler had contracted the people at Flight Suits to make for him to sell through his adds in "Soldier of Fortune"...Castor Dioscuri wrote:...are we then to take it that this jacket is the same as in LC?
What was referred to out here by a certain vendor as "an early LC prototype" was in fact just that - but it was made by Flight Suits in 1987 to Lee Kepler's specifications. That is the jacket that was given to the final jacket maker for IJ4. He reverse engineered the pattern, made specific modifications to Bernie's needs, and the final jacket's were made. Patterns exist for the final jacket you see. The maker has assured me that the jackets will be accurate to what you see. Bernie hopes the guy sells a lot of them, and when a green light is given the maker's name will be released. Given we can talk about Adventurebilt, I expect this will be any day now...
Every single detail above has been confirmed with people both at LucasFilms as well as Tony Powell and his team on LC, as well as with members of the current production team...

What do you mean by ours? It belongs to Indygear or you personally? This jacket of ours - from any of the movies - is not a Wested design/creation, or a Leather Concessionaires design/creation, or a Peter Botwright design/creation... They copied different jackets at different times that somebody else had already made.
I believe he means that the Indy jacket, its image, and what it represents, "belongs to the fans." Like referring to a sports team as "our team."PETER wrote:What do you mean by ours? It belongs to Indygear or you personally?
_ - 2 questions - could you expand on Noel Howard and the missing jacket from Temple of Doom? Also, your avatar - what is this photo? Always wondered what you are leaning up against._ wrote:J One little example of something like this explained the Noel Howard jacket - turns out it filled in a gap on the costume design side that had long existed regarding a "missing jacket from Temple of Doom."
_, does that mean you dropped Noel in it? And is that an Omega Seamaster I spy in your avatar? When asked if they were aware of the jacket Noel Howard had in his possession, they explained that they were not aware that anybody in Monty Berman's employ taken one. Number 10...
Thanks _. Have you seen Noel Howards jacket and do you know who made it?_ wrote:Sorry - missed this in my ramble above...Canada Jones wrote: ...could you expand on Noel Howard and the missing jacket from Temple of Doom?
It is simple really - there were 10 jackets supplied to the wardrobe team. With the prevailing atmosphere of "we must license everything" they were keeping a little closer tab on things as compared to the days of Raiders. When production wrapped, only 8 jackets could be accounted for. One eventually surfaced that had made its clandestine way to a Planet Hollywood display. When asked if they were aware of the jacket Noel Howard had in his possession, they explained that they were not aware that anybody in Monty Berman's employ taken one. Number 10...
That is the funny thing about digging up the true story - things tend to line-up and loose ends tend to resolve themselves as opposed to creating even more loose ends... The exercise has been very satisfying...
Is Lee Keppler then responsible for the LC and CS jackets having press studs?_ wrote:The FS jacket Lee used to sell was one he worked with them to develop based on Lee's interpretation of the Raider's jacket. The press stud was just something Lee asked them to add.
nothing....nothing at all? i've caked my veg tanned lamb and now it has overtaken my year old alden 405's in darkness. sometimes i look at it and think....boy they nailed all my specs and i have veg tanned lamb just like the original.......other occassions i'm thinking....i wish she was as dark as the originalAnd to Indiana G: Once again, we can successfully chalk this up to another example of how light affects color! So far, I haven't applied any Pecards (or anything at all for that matter) to the jacket, but I plan on doing so.
Thanks _! The leather looks, and feels right to me somehow... Although the color may be a tad redder than what we're used to seeing, it completely feels the part, almost like having the softness of a lamb with the thickness of a cow (to some extent). I do agree that getting a good fit for the shoulders is a tough deal, but sending along a tailor's measurements never hurts! So far, believe you me, I've worn the heck out of it, weather permitting!_ wrote:Personally, I would not do anything except wear it. That is great looking leather. The tough part is usually getting a good fit through the shoulders - for me at least - and that jacket looks like it sits perfectly across your chest and shoulders.
Now we just need to get some meat on your bones! Oh no - I'm becoming my little Italian mother! Her answer to everything is "Have some more lasagna..."
Indiana G, I'm not too sure what else to say, other than that You, sir, are in my book, a true gearhead! But any more obsessiveness out of you, and we'll have to call the men in white coats!Indiana G wrote: nothing....nothing at all? i've caked my veg tanned lamb and now it has overtaken my year old alden 405's in darkness. sometimes i look at it and think....boy they nailed all my specs and i have veg tanned lamb just like the original.......other occassions i'm thinking....i wish she was as dark as the original
why am i never happy? i think the only way to get her darkened up more from here is either using mink oil & shoe polish (like the original) {G cringes} or dying it. i keep having these nightmares where i meet ford, lucas, and stevie and they're commenting...."nice gear.....why is your jacket not dark enough???" arrrrrrghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
That's good to hear. I'd hate to think any of our loyal vendors were being jeopardized by the fans' search for the truth.Following the questions about whether or not my inquiries may have put NH in hot water, I followed with LF to clarify the point. Nobody is losing sleep over this jacket Noel has, though he may be asked just to confirm he does have it at some point. The way that info was relayed to me? Well, I'd bet a round of drinks at the QM that they will never bother. JMO...
